Electronic Compass The compass display and module are contained in the overhead console and are replaced as an assembly. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12 . The compass display can be turned off and on by pressing the MODE button in the overhead console. The vehicle heading is displayed as one of N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, or NW.
Inspection and Verification
NOTE: Press the MODE button to turn on the display.
  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the vehicle along roads of known direction to duplicate the customer concern with the compass.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

My 2007 checy impala read "calibration complete" what does that mean ????

CALIBRATION COMPLETE
Refer to Electronic Compass Calibration do you have an owners manual ?
Compass Calibration
The compass direction will show CAL if it needs to be calibrated. Before calibrating the compass, drive the vehicle to an area that is magnetically clean (free of large metallic objects).
  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Before calibrating the compass, make sure the compass is set to the variance zone in which the vehicle is travelling. See Compass Magnetic Variation Adjustment below.
  3. Press the vehicle information button until the PRESS TO CALIBRATE COMPASS screen is displayed.
  4. Press the set/reset button to start the compass calibration.
  5. The DIC will display CALIBRATING: DRIVE IN CIRCLES. Drive the vehicle in circles at less than 8 km/h (5 mph) to complete the calibration. The DIC will display CALIBRATION COMPLETE when the calibration is complete.

How do i reset the compass on a 2006 dodge grand caravan

Hi Roger, I'm glad to help. Below is the procedure for resetting the compass on your vehicle.

COMPASS VARIATION ADJUSTMENT Compass variance, also known as magnetic declination, is the difference in angle between magnetic north and true geographic north. In some geographic locations, the difference between magnetic and geographic north is great enough to cause the compass to give false readings. If this problem occurs, the compass variance setting may need to be changed.
To set the compass variance:

1. Using the Variance Settings map, find your geographic location and note the zone number Figure 1.
22681.jpg Figure 1 - Variance Settings 2. Turn the ignition switch to the On position. If the compass/thermometer data is not currently being displayed, momentarily depress and release the C/T push button to reach the compass/thermometer display. 3. On Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) and Compass Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) equipped vehicles depress the Reset push button and hold the button down until "VAR = XX" appears in the display. This takes about five seconds. On Compass Temperature Module (CT) equipped vehicles depress the C/T push button and US/M push button down until "VAR = XX" appears in the display. This takes about five seconds. 4. Release the push button(s). "VAR =XX " will remain in the display. "XX" equals the current variance zone setting. 5. On Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) and Compass Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) equipped vehicles momentarily depress and release the STEP button to step through the zone numbers, until the zone number for your geographic location appears in the display. On Compass Temperature Module (CT) equipped vehicles depress the US/M push button to step through the zone numbers, until the zone number for your geographic location appears in the display. 6. On Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) and Compass Mini-Trip Computer (CMTC) equipped vehicles momentarily depress and release the RESET push button to enter the displayed zone number into the EVIC/CMTC module memory. On Compass Temperature Module (CT) equipped vehicles depress the C/T push button to enter the displayed zone number into the electronic module memory. 7. Confirm that the correct directions are now indicated by the compass.

2006 Expedition overhead compass reads "N" when heading "E". Wonder how to reset it so it indicates the direction accurately.

Yes. Wish I could tell you which button for sure, but to reprogram the Compass you hold one of the buttons and drive in a circle one or two times to reacquire your position.

Compass direction wrong

Compass Calibration
Before calibrating the compass, drive the vehicle to an area that is magnetically clean or free of large metallic objects. Verify there are no magnetized objects on the inside or outside of the vehicle close to the mirror.

Start the engine.
Press and hold the switch for the compass, which may be depicted as COMP, COMPASS, or On/Off (w/UE1) depending on the type of mirror on the vehicle, until the letter "C" or "CAL" is displayed.
Drive the vehicle in circles at a speed of less than 8 km/h (5 mph) until the "C" or "CAL" is replaced by a proper vehicle heading. The calibration procedure is now complete.
Compass Magnetic Variation Adjustment
Magnetic variation adjustments are required when the compass displays a constant error in heading. Variation is the difference between magnetic north and true north due to geographical location.

How do you reset the compass??

  1. Stop the vehicle and place it in "Park."

  2. Press and hold the "Set" button on the compass for about two seconds. The button is located directly below the compass to the right.

  3. Press the "E/M" button repeatedly until the correct zone is displayed. If you do not know your zone, you might have to contact your dealer for this information.

  4. Press and hold the "Set" button for about two seconds until the display flashes, indicating that the compass is reset.

2001 Toyota Prado (exported from Japan). Compass reset procedure.

Hi, don't know if you figured it out, but I just (literally 10 minutes ago) calibrated the compass on my 2001 LandCruiser Prado by doing the following:

- Press the up and down arrows together until the inclinometer starts to blink.
- Then press the "Mode" button to switch to compass. The compass should start to blink.
- Drive your car in a 360 degree circle until the compass stops blinking.
- And that's about it.

Even though this is an old question I wanted to post the answer because I've been looking at this issue for a year and haven't found the solution online.

Please note that this page http://www.tlocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2302&sid=327bc81ab3b0160e82d7863b3e6417f5 pointed me in the right direction although the instructions there caused the inclinometer to be re-calibrated in my car. I had to tinker around and I figured out that if I pressed "mode", it switched to compass calibration.

Regards,

danls
