Change fuel filter. If you have someone local, have them run a fuel sytem clean out on your car. Then add a can of Seafoam to your fuel. It is all about the ethanol goop problem that are causing all the problems on these cars. it fills the system up with water, and turns to gas into a brown syrup. but every 3000 miles(after this). if you add Seafoam to your car, it will keep the lines clean, break up the goop, and your car will not have line freeze up this winter. good luck

My 2012 Chevy Malibu lt 2.4 will not accelerate could it be transmission

No, most newer models have issues with the accelerator pedal and throttle body correlation switch assembly. Most need both switches replaced. One controls the intake and the other controls when you are depressing the pedal. Double check recalls, a lot of cars are getting recalled for some safety concerns involving acceleration. I hope that is what you meant by not accelerating. Does the engine rev up when you depress the gas pedal? Is the problem only when you have it in gear?

WHY DID CHECK ENGINE LIGHT START FLASHING THEN STAYS SOLID?

Get the codes read, that's the only way you're going to find out what is going on with the vehicle. You don't have to have the dealer do it, all repair shops have code readers, along with most auto parts stores and some of the oil change places can do it also. With as computerized as the cars are now, when the CEL comes on you what to read the codes.

Check engine light flashes and the car shimmies, although not as though it's out of alignment.

A flashing ck eng light is an indication that your vehicle is burning way too much gas, enoigh to damage the catalytic converter. Is the shimmy rhythmic, like a constant repeated vibration that increases with acceleration? If so, have your ignition coils checked. You may have a defective one creating a misfire.

Starts and runs good then suddenly ck eng lite come on and it dies. Will start back up with holding gas pedal on floor and die again soon...repeat...

Your vehicle is equipped wit the OBD!1 (on board diagnostic system ) when your check engine light turns on it is setting a code. You need to have it scanned to get this code. This will point you in a direction to your problem. When you place the accelerator to the floor you put the system in the clear flood mode which is allowing you to start but then the problem takes over and kills the engine.

Your noise sounds like it is power train related,If you have eliminated the engine,Since it doesn't make the noise while moving and in neutral.
It sounds like a universal joint in the drive shaft.Do you notice a vibration
