When headlights turned on the dashboard lights dim and after 5 minutes a warning sound comes on.

The sound is a beep...beep...beep... that stops as soon as I turn the headlights back off. I can turn the headlights back on and same sequence of events occurs, dim dashboard lights and after about 5 minutes of driving the sound comes back until I turn the headlights back off. Cannot find any mention of warning sounds in owners manual.

Sounds like your charging system needs some attention.
1st check battery for voltage should be 12.50 or better with car off
2nd, start car check battery for voltage again should be 14.0 to 14.75 volts.
3 with running turn on headlamps and check charging voltage again if your voltage dropped to battery voltage your charging system is not working.

SOURCE: head lights and dashboard lights come on and off

I had this problem on my wife's Jeep Cherokee.  The only way that I could get it to stop was to take the entire dash apart to get at the back of the instrument panel.  Once you get there, there is a plug in on the back of it, I clean that off with rubbing alcohol and clean the plug up as well.  I couldn't figure anything else to do so I put it back together and haven't had it happen again for the last 6 months.  Just to let you know if your Grand is like her sport, you will get everything off of the dash and think you should be able to get to the instrument panel just to find that there is a clip holding the headlight switch on keeping the panel from coming all the way off.  I had to put my head in the floor and my feet in the air to get to it, but I got it off.  Good luck!

SOURCE: head lights and dashboard lights come on and off

This is usually a sign of the battery wires not connected completely or the ground has become frayed and needs to be replaced.

1997 bmw 328i dash lights all lit up at once and after several minutes they faded, and eventually the headlights and dashboard lights dimmed.

Alternator. Have it tested with a voltmeter while on the car and running. Or take it off and have it tested. The current to run the car and the accessories is from the alternator when the engine is running. The battery light coming on alerts you that the alternator is not doing its job.

Headlights dim after approx 5 minutes, then no further problem

Sounds like it's losing power somewhere from a loose connection. Clean and re-tighten the battery cable connections, check all the grounds you can find. Check alternator and starter connections for tightness. Get the trouble codes from the engine computer to see if they show anything helpful.
Good luck.

I have a 2003 Infiniti m45 and every time I turn the headlights on the dashboard lights gets dim what's the problem?

There is nothign wrong with your car-when you turn on the headlights the car believes you are turnung them on because it is dark outside, so it automatically dims your dashboard lights for you (since it now thinks it's nighttime). Your car already has daytime running lights, so you don't need to turn your headlights on in the daytime-they come on automatically when the car is running. You can keep your dash lights dim or bright by adjusting the small black dial on the left side of the dashboard, whether headlights are on or off if you want to.

sounds like you adjusted your instrument lights. try turning the knob on the head lights to turn the lights back up. if that is not the switch, the owners manual will show you if there is a separate switch on the dashboard to adjust the instrument cluster with.

1998 Ford Escort dashboard warning lights and gauges not working.

Sounds like possibly the ignition switch is going out. Try jiggling the key in the ignition in the on position and see if your lights come back on.

Car starts to crank, almost turns over, but will not start

Yes it could, turn on the headlights and have someone watch them, if they dim badly while you try to start it, you may have a bad battery. You can take it to a part store and they will test it for you.
