I have a 2001 Stratus. I was turning the wheel to back up when the airbag light went on and stays on. Is this cause for concern? I can't take it in until next week. Thank you.
That happened to me when the clock spring in the steering wheel broke. But the clock spring controls the air bags, horn and cruise control. Check if your horn and cruise control works. If not, I bet it's the clock spring from turning your wheel. It was about $150 to replace. Good luck!
Possably its a loose wire in the air bag when you put it in get them to check, you should be fine. till next week, just take it easy incase it dose decide to go off by its self but unlikly, but it can hapen
When the Airbag light (SRS waring) is on or blinks it means a fault has occurred in the system and the airbag diagnostic monitor has disabled the Airbag system. The most common problem that turns the light on is a break in the connection to the steering wheel mounted Airbag, this is due to a rotating ribbon contact that breaks under the steering wheel that connects the airbag to the wiring harness and the diagnostic monitor, the part is called the clock spring contact, a coiled up ribbon electrical contact that turns with the steering wheel while maintaining a mechanical connection to the airbag mounted on the steering wheel, to replace this part you must disarm the airbag system and remove the steering wheel, this requires a special steering wheel puller tool and that you disarm the Airbag system before you start the work, to do this disconnect the battery negative cable for 1/2 hour prior.
