Last month I was at a stop light, when I went to accelerate my car lost power and started missing real bad. I continued to step on the gas and the power finally kicked in. It did this for about a week on and off. My mechanic replaced the CAM Sensor and it hasn't happened since but the check engine light is still on. I took it to the dealer and they tell me that the oil control valve must be replaced but this is not a guarantee to fix the problem. Next would be the CVVT and because my car just hit 61k miles this is not covered. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Maybe it is your car computer needs reprograming. It is difficult to diagnose without seeing the car and running some test

SOURCE: The last 5-6 I have gotten gas, 2005 Sportage hard to start at gas pump, but then fine after a few miles - mechanic is clueless!

Your code, assuming it was evap related, also means other issues aside from a loose gas cap. Your fuel system "closes" down to purge unburned fuel back through the engine. A loose gas cap will stop this process, as in why the check engine light will go on. Also, there is a vent solenoid, purge solenoid, fuel tank pressure sensor, and a charcoal canister that are involved. My guess, but if you have a bad vent solenoid, you may have symptoms like yours. Any "good" technician can test this for you.

NISSAN 1996 200sx & lost ALL ACCELERATION ON HWY

the ECU shuts down all cars (cruise controls) if ECM or TCM sees hard errors, for safety and by law. even brake lamps dead. and more.
never put additives in the gas tank ever, for sure Marvel mystery Oil ever or wreck the injectors you will, a horrible act.
lost power is normal on overheating engines. (cause and effect)
the engine needs service, like 99% of all 26 year old cars.
It will; have lots of problems is not serviced regularly.
USA car?
back in 1996 ECU only some simple checks by ECU then OBD2 USA./
it is just basics not a very smart, Check engine light*(CEL)
In Canada, the ECU is even more DDummbb(sic) this year.

check oil levels at every fuel fill up, on 26 year old engines.( for sure)
that old the joke is
"stop at the Station,and fill up oil, and after check fuel too if needed."

do not drive cars based on dash lamps, do the checks your self
even look for coolant leaks hood up hot engine,
check for belts frayed or loose or missing
check for brake fluid leaks, all corners and master cylinder , levels good.
make sure you run 50% Antifreeze for engine coolant, fresh is best.
not pure water, ever, or it will boil over , for sure.

yes it needs service, nobody here can look under the hood and test things, using real tools. (in a text box) but can say get it serviced.
with real coolant. the boil point is 265F, so if you ever hear or see it boil, you now that is a hard failure and to not drive it but stop and fix it. or damage can go worse warping head or block or worse.
at this ages, most hoses here are totally EOL , end of life)
and the thermostat too.(or more)

What causes engine to accelerate without gas?

Possibilities:
  1. Leak in intake manifold or deteriorated throttle body gasket;
  2. Loose or missing throttle body spring;
  3. Defective idle air bypass valve;
  4. Bad throttle position sensor;
  5. Bad EGR valve or EGR position sensor;
  6. Evil aliens.
If there is, or has recently been, a CHECK ENGINE light showing, have the stored codes read out. They may reveal the culprit or, at least, indicate where to begin looking.

1992 pajero auto temp light stuck on when motor wasn't running long when accelerating vehicle stopped then hard to start now won't start at all,

Sir if the starter is not even turning im sorry to inform your engine might be broken. Lack of oil could be the reason. I d reccomend to send to a mechanic shop inmediately.

it sounds like you have a bad ground. follow all your ground wires. should be one to the engine, body, and maybe frame. disconnect them and clean the surfaces with sand paper and reconnect

Car hesitation

had a problem with a grand prix like that once, was the fuel filter, and injectors, all needed replaced, and it only had 89,000 miles.
Would check fuel filter first. Is it possible you got some bad gas??
