I doubt it is a sensor because a faulty sensor would turn on the check engine light. I would look at fuel pressure in case the problem is a weak fuel pump or pump relay.
someone had referred to a feul regulator as the possible problem is that what you ar talking about? What parts should i check, in your opinion, after the feul pump.
Well the regulator limits the pressure to under 50psi. It would not normally prevent the engine from running. There should be a fitting on the fuel rail where a mechanic fits a pressure gauge to check pressure. You'll need to somehow confirm the problem is fuel or ignition to proceed. It could be something electrical too.
the car quits almost as soon as you put it in gear in park or neutral it runs fine
Does it feel like the torque converter is locked up ?
no, i think im going to put it in the shop

GM's 98-05 w/ engines 3.1/3.4/3.8/3.8SC
The mass air flow or crankshaft position sensor may fail causing the engine to intermittently stall. It may be necessary for the engine to cool down before it will restart.
Patience is necessary when dealing with this specific situation as normal diagnostic procedures are not effective. In many cases, the best option is to replace parts, one at a time until the fault is corrected.
Start with MAF since you have no CEL on its very easy to replace and if it dosnt fix the problem just take back and tell them you didnt need it

sounds like your passlock sensor on the ignition barrel is faulty. you will have to go to the dealer to have it replaced because of the programming after replacement.
I had the same problem. Turns out,( and I didn't believe it when I was told) but, my problem turned out to be cheap (inferiour) plugs and wired. I was reccomended to use NKG plugs and Borg-Warner wires.

Could be several problems with a car that old:
1. Weak coil
2. Failing fuel pump
3. Failing crank sensor
4. Failing mass airflow sensor

Possibly the fuel filter is slowly plugging up while driving to the point of starving the engine, and when engine stops pressure slowly backfeeds the filter to slightly unplug ..enough to start and run for another couple of minutes.. also check EGR valve for sticking open sometimes a piece of carbon will hold the pintle open causing it to stall..also I know you checked fuel pressure but monitor it to see if it drops off after going down the road...I have seen this where fuel pump gives pressure but not enough after a while, this was caused by a torn pulsator which is the rubber connector between the pump and the fuel line inside the fuel tank...Good luck
