Running on freeway at 60+ MPH engine quits for 15 seconds restarts on its own. Second time stops completely a week later restarts after a couple of minutes. Third episode... quits five or six minutes, then it restarts. Fourth time... from standing start at 30 MPH ... Quits NO restart this time.
At very cheap rates you can go for manuals from this store. Just check

SOURCE: Whine when air conditioner compressor engaged at lower speeds
If it is coming from under the hood(whine)then the ac compressor is either low on oil,or it is about to go out.Sometimes ac compressors will last a good long time, but sometimes they whine right before they lock up.So look for some ac compressor problems.Have a mechanic check it out,but it will most likely need to be changed out(compressor and components).

problem one is the timer control for the heaters ,also check the heaters that they are working ,oil problem ? look under the rubber boot that goes over the oil switch ,pull it back and if oil under the cover renew the oil switch, these motors do suffer from heater light flashing on and i know people have spent megabucks trying to cure it ,its a fault with dash and printed circuits ,but the heaters are not coming on i know because i have driven one with the heater circuit light coming on and i had a extended light on a long wire and the heaters are not coming on ,ignore it just renew the faulty glow plugs,as for EGR valve just pull teh vacumn pipe off the ERG valve and leave disconnect ,more hassle than its worth changing it ,you could end up with a ECU computer .Still a nice reliable motor though and economical
Testimonial: "Thanks for your usefull answer. Afer I stop the engine 2 times from EGR valve, both board alarms have been reseted. What does it mean? Thanks again."

Start with the simple by replacing your fuel filter, but most likely it's going to be your fuel pump that will need to be replaced soon. It's common for the fuel pump on the Saturn's to go weak after a few years, the piston and the cylinder sleeves after a few years wear and the clearance is much grater when the pump heats up.
The extra clearance will cause the fuel pressure to drop just enough to keep the fuel injectors from working. Once the pump has cooled down enough for the piston and cylinder sleeves to create enough fuel pressure, your engine can run again.
You may get luck as mentioned to start with the simple and replace your fuel filter first, then the fuel pump if that did not help.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck
Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
