Clunking sound with braking

When I apply the brakes the left front corner of my car clunks. It sounds and feels like I have a flat tire, but I don't. I just paid a bunch of money to fix the heat shield because the dealership claimed that was the problem, but just drove it home and the sound is still there.

I would get after the dealership for false diagnosis. You paid money to have it fixed and they didn't fix the problem. Sounds like a BAR violation to me. ( Bureau of Automotive Repair )
The most common problem with what your describing is:
1. Loose or bad strut, suspension parts.
2. Loose brake caliper or not properly seated brake rotor.

Those are the most common things I see in my shop with that type of problem. I wouldn't let the dealership get away with this.

There is a grinding and clunking noise coming from my left front tire on my 850 volvo (96). I replaced the hub bearing and the brakes and rotores are new too.

Really need more info to help you locate and correct this problem, when does grinding occur? Just when applying brakes? at a certain speed without breaking? Same for Clunking Noise. If I had to go off the info I have I would remove wheel and check to make sure pads are still positioned correctly and check to make sure the caliper bolts and caliper bracket bolts are tight

When I press on the brakes it sounds like its clunking through gears. But when the ABS lite is on the brakes works great

the sound that you hear are the abs working sadly its normal but it mean it works properly. when the abs light is on it mean that your abs is not functioning that's why you don't hear the clunking sound

Clunking sound with braking on my 2003 Forester

It sounds like the control arm bushing is probably cracked or broken. Unfortunately a clunking while braking can be a lot of issues, but I bet it is coming from the control arm bushing.

CLUNKING SOUND IN REAR UPON APPLYING BRAKES 2000 CIRRUS CAR

I would check the brake caliper hinge pins. If the pins are worn, every time you apply the brakes the caliper moves forward against the pins. If the caliper pins and or caliper are worn they will clunk when the brakes are applied.
Check to see if the caliper shifts forward and back.
Let me know.
