While traveling down the interstate at 70mph , the car was running fine and all of a sudden the motor shut off . After coasting to the emergency lane and stopping ,tried to restart the car . The motor would turn over ; but, would not start back up.

Try checking the starter solenoid wires.Make sure the wire hasnt come loose and the battery to solenoid cable is tight.

Your car is equipped with a system called PASSKEY standard on all GM cars and light trucks, try the following procedure to reset the system, the battery being dead will trigger the system.
PASSKEY LOCKOUT RESET GM CARS 1999 UP
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key.

the ignition control module goes bad as well. when it goes bad, things like this happen too often in these cars. my car had the same problem. and it didnt work right til i changed the ignition control module which is inside the pick up coil
