You might find tension is adjusted at your power steering pump for that engine & belt.

Your water pump IS the tensioner...loosen it and use the screw underneath to move it looser or tighter, then lock it down.

How do i know if my 95 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4.0 inline 6 is an interference engine

You have a timing chain that is good for the life of the engine. The only thing that could need replacing is the chain tensioner if it starts to make noise.

Must i remove the radiator, the grill, and the fan, in order to change the fan (serpentine) belt on the 1996 Grand Cherokee Laredo?

Absolutely not.. It will come out by releasing tension on the belt and working it around the pulleys..It's tight but it will come.

I need to replace my serpentine belt. Which

For a 94 Jeep grand cherokee, the tension is controlled through a long bolt on the power steering bracket. The bolt is about 6 inches long, located underneath the power steering on the driver side. Lossen the lockbolt holding it in place, as well as the Power steering attach bolts, and turn the long bolt to tighten/loosen. I believe these are all 13 mm bolts.

Hi i have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo do i turn the screw counter clockwise on the tensioner pulley to remove

The opposite direction the pulley turns. However, if you are trying to get the serpentine belt on or off, this will help. It's easy and doesn't require a prybar.

  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • Get the belt around all the pulleys except the A/C compressor or Alternator.
  • The tensioner pulley is near the Alternator toward the center of the engine. It's on a spring loaded arm. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt on the final pulley.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done
