Key is stuck in ignition the wheel can still turn but the key won't turn to start or release 2003 Saturn VUE, manual transmission. Husband came home, turned the car off, realized the windows were open, tried to turn the key back to ACC in order to close the windows but the key got stuck halfway to the ACC position. Now it will not turn at all in any direction and it is stuck inside the ignition. The steering wheel can still turn, clutch is still engaging as are the brakes.
Try wd40 and shaking the key, what happens is one of the tumblers get stuck and wont let the key turn if that dosnt work let me know worst case you will have to replace the ignition its about $35 to $40 and a few hours.
Do you have a floor shift console?
If so,then make sure the stick is in park, and the button on the shift lever is all the way out,if not it can cause a multitude of problems with the key.
If neither of these is an issue, did you have a duplicate key made recently?
If so,it may not have been cut properly

Actually, like I mentioned above, my car is not an automatic. I don't have an automatic shift lever like you're describing. I have a manual transmission or "stick-shift" if you prefer. So that's not the problem. Disengaging the key is usually a matter of turning the steering wheel out of steering lock, but that is not working in this case.
WD40 didn't work too well. Husband and neighbor had to take out the ignition and "hammer" it a bit to take out the key. So, will it really cost that little to replace it?
