This starts about two years ago. It starts fine in the morning, or after it has been sitting a while, but if I drove it for a short distance, it wouldn't start again. Sometimes it would start and stall, other times the engine would crank but not turn over. Sometimes it would turn over, then the engine would keep cranking as it died. At first, I would wait ten minutes, then it would start, then wait times grew to 30 minutes, an hour, etc. I think it's up to 3+ hours now. You get the idea. A few weeks ago, it turned over, then there was a loud scraping noise, then it was completely dead. Dead dead. No battery. Mind you, the battery was new. I took it to my mechanic, and he replaced the whole ignition mechanism, including the tumbler and security panel, and outfitted me with new keys which he programmed. It started when I picked it up, but the next time ( about 2 hours later) nada. Just cranked. Here is a list of the items that have been replaced: starter, 2 batteries now, cam shaft sensor, and the aforementioned parts. Anyone who solves this gets a million life points.

this may be same thing thing as found on volvo 940 you have a large double relay both for fuel pump and allso for starting
SOURCE: Stalling. starts 15 minutes later. runs good for a week.
A friend had a toyota which did the same. The problem was the coil inside the distributor. once he replaced it all was well. The problem was the coil leaking and getting hot and then shutting the engine down. Once it cooled off it would run for about 15 to 30 minutes. He spent several weekends working on it and replacing electronics and finally checked inside the distributor and there was the problem.

It is the security chips in the keys. Has this car been wrecked? Was this car made in Mexico? GM had the bright Idea of creating a security system that would do exactly this, I know on cars made in Mexico (like the HHR) You can reset the power and get the key back out, but vehicle will have to be reprogrammed with the master key. This involves turning the key from off to run position without ever going past run (i.e. start position) leave key in this position for 30 minutes. Turn key back to off for 30 seconds then back to run for 30 minutes. repeat this step three times. the last time, after 3rd 30 minute period, turn key off for 30 seconds and then try to crank. Please note this only works if the original master key is being used. You can then reprogram the second key following a similar sequence, only master key that is working has to be inserted to let alarm system know that vehicle is not being stolen only that you are trying to reprogram a key. If original master key is not being used then vehicle has to be taken to the GM dealership to program keys and possible key module replacement.
