About a year ago my SES light continued to come on and I had trouble starting up the car after fueling up. They replaced the thermostat.
Now the SES light is on again (code 0440) and its another emissions code. Is this a common problem with the Vues?
P0440 code is EVAP control system problem. This has to do with emissions from the carbon can, fuel tank and general leaks that come from fuel evaporation. Anywhere gas fumes can escape the systerm. This code is very common and can be caused by a simple fuel cap being loose or leaking. Check the fuel cap and reset the coputer. If the SES light comes back on there could be a problem with some of the systerm controls. ie vent valve, purge valveand canister. And /or vac leaks.
Your car is equipped with OBDII and you cannot reset your computer by dissconnecting the battery. This can only be done with a code reader. P0440 is an EVAP code not an O2 code.Your car is equipped with OBDII and you cannot reset your computer by dissconnecting the battery. This can only be done with a code reader. The code 0440 indicates o2 sensor (lean exhaust) it is a good thing you had a scan but did you turn the memory off the error message the previous time?
I will give you the procedure:- Diagnostic trouble codes may be cleared by disconnecting the battery
ground cable for at least 20 seconds. Reconnect negative battery cable
and recheck codes to confirm the repair. Please rate this.

Depending on the year make and model, a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) would help. Is the check engine light on when it does run? Testing needs to be done. Check for spark at the plug, make sure fuel pressure is what it should be and that the fuel injectors are working. If all that is good, I would check compression and timing.
Is the \'Service Engine Soon\' light on? Only from what you described, it sounds like the engine\'s running in \'open loop\' (fast idle, cold) okay, then when it\'s supposed to go into \'closed loop\', you have a malfunction. Checking the trouble codes will pinpoint the problem; your truck is pre-\'95 so it\'s the older OBD-I and you could get the trouble codes by grounding the proper terminal in the ALDL, counting the blinks of the SES light and using it to determine what electronic control device is malfunctioning. If no SES light/trouble codes and since you ran out of gas (?), it might be time to replace the fuel filter and possibly check the fuel pressure and/or fuel pump.
Make sure your gas cap is fully tightened (listen for the click). If the EGR needs replaced, then do it. If it continues, take it to a reputable dealer. HINT: Your car is 25 years old; it will continue to have problems like this. Start shopping for a good low-mileage used car at a reasonable price. . .
See if your getting spark at the ign. coil first (passengers side on that year) if you are change the crank shaft sensor making sure you mount it as close to the engine as possible so it never gives you trouble again.
No, the fuel gauge not working wouldn't have anything to do with your not starting problem , probably the gauge is bad . With the SECURITY light lit , anti-theft system problem ! Service light ????? Service engine soon ? Or service vehicle ? With the light's on code's DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are stored . Have it checked , don't guess as to what the problem is. This would prevent the buying of un needed parts .
160 MPa at idle and it reaches at least 158 MPa Good luck but i think there was a recall on the fuel system on your year and make of truck. #04-06-04-007I: Service Engine Soon (SES) Light On, DTCs P0087, P0093, P1093, Low Power, No Start, Hard Start, Fuel in Crankcase (Replace All Injectors - New Strategy for High Fuel Return Rates) - (Aug 18, 2008)
