I replaced the engine in a 20002 Kia rio and now it wont start. It gives a crankshaft position sensor code. I replaced that and no change. The only time I have spark plug fire is when I release the ignition switch from start position it sparks 1 time.

There will be a camshaft and crankshaft sensor so be sure you replaced the correct one. The code its giving you is a dead sign of no start and a bad sensor. Make sure its electrical connector is hooked up tight and its seated properly.

When you replace a position sensor there are several checks that have to be made. ---check the air gap from the rotor to the sensor---check that the rotor is tight ---check for foreign material that will get between the sensor and rotor.. The reason that there is no spark when cranking is that the circuit for the spark is not connected in the crank position. Check for fuse or relay problem

the rotor teeth on the flywheel are not excessively dirty but they are not shiny like the one on the old engine could this be a factor. The cps seems to fit well and tighten up good and I have disconnected and reconnected the plug in numerous times. Thanks so much for your advice!!

You say that there is spark in the start position but not in the run position of the ignition switch. THis indicates a faulty connection to the ignition system or a bad ignition switch and as you have changed the engine the it is possible that a wire connections is bad or incorrect. Recheck all the wire connections.

SOURCE: ENGINE WONT TURN OVER

sounds like the timing belt it has a interference engine so if the timing belt broke you could have bent rods and cracked pistons or worse. good luck

SOURCE: i think i need to change the crankshaft position sensor.

yes the crankshaft position sensor can cause all these problems at once. they are fairly simple to change and not a really expensive part if you want to check it though you can unplug it and hook a multimeter to it and check ohms as someone cranks the engine. should see a square wave as in 0 ohs to infinity ohms and repeat.

SOURCE: 2004 Kia Optima no start after timing belt, crank, cam sensor replacement

did you use aftermarket crank sensor? if so that might be your problem. dealer has several different ones, by providing vin number, but there is only one after market for all optimas 01-05. try to connect thick pink wire and thick orange wire together on the ignition failure sensor. you might have the same problem as me. good luck.

SOURCE: 2002 kia rio, where is the crankshaft position

A crankshaft position (CKP) sensor is mounted on the front of transmission case adjacent to the flywheel. The CKP sensor is a hall-effect type sensor that generates voltage using a sensor and a target wheel mounted on the crankshaft. There are 58 slots and one longer slot on the target wheel. When the slot in the wheel aligns with the sensor, the sensor voltage output is low (approx. 0V). and it is high (approx.5V) when a slot is not aligned with the sensor. During one crankshaft rotation there are 58 rectangular signals and one longer signal. The ECM calculates the frequency to compute engine rpm to determine the injection duration and ignition timing. Using the signal differences caused by the longer slot, ECM identifies which cylinder is on top dead center

I have these codes reading now po700 po335 and po727 any idea what to check first on 03 kia sorento. my car lost power then shut off, then wouldn't start

p0335 is a crank shaft sensor error. This sensor is what tells the ECM when to send spark to plugs. That is why it wont start.

I have a 2004 kia rio manual trans. it will crank but wont start. the cam shaft pos. sensor code was read off the car. erased, then came back on after i tried to start the car again. we already replaced...

Did you reset the code after replacing the sensor? If it is accessable you may want to try to wiggle or hold the camshaft position sensor while cranking to see if this helps. On most of the vehicles I have had a problem with this sensor, most won't even crank when there is a sensor issue. So you may have another problem on your hands.
