The security light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

1993 camaro no secrty light wont crank

Most all mechanics pull the dome light fuse before working in the interior to avoid draining the battery.. On the 1994-95 Camaro the 20 Amp fuse courtesy light, also illuminates the orange security light in the dash cluster. If the security light is out, and your car won't start, it's because the VATS is in theft mode and you don't see it. Clean the key, if that don't work you may have an open short or broken wire in the orange jacket of the ignition (key) switch. Disconnect the harness connector and connect a matching resistor with the correct ohms of your key inline with the purple and white wires without cutting the connectors off, because you may latter need them. - Original Owner of 1995 Camaro.

I have an 2002 Chevy Impala, when I go to crank my car it won't do anything. I have to play with the ignition by turning the key back and forth in order for it to crank. what is that?

Why do so many people ask about an Alternator ?

It has nothing to do with the starting system

You said you have to play with the key & ignition switch
that may be a place to start

2001 jaguar s-type won't crank battery new and charged. Turn the ignition car won't make a sound

many things will cause no start problems could have faulty ignition switch.use test light see if power going to starter if not check ignition fuse to starter.if power going to starter, more likely starter solenoid or starter faulty.if ignition fuse okay and starter and solenoid okay still no start problem could be in the ignition switch or inhibitor switch faulty.code scan for faulty theft security system which will also cause no start conditions.

My 2000 corvette won't crank up---no lights will come on-----nothing works in dash, not even the radio

I would take the battery cables loose and actually verify battery is not leaking. If "security" is causing no start then you can tell by watching the security lamp on dash. It should be on solid when key is turned to run if it is part of your concern. also sounds like you could have a body control module problem it controls the interior lamps which may explain clicking you heard and also controls the security.
