Driving home Check engine light blinks. Scanned it and comes up with P0304
SOURCE: check engine light blinking and a sound like air coming from the engine area
I've had the same problem with my 1999 Mazda Protege, 1.6L, Automatic.
The problem was a damaged spark plug, resulting in a loss of compression in one of the cylinders.
Solution: replace all spark plugs and make sure wires are in good condition. I recommend NGK Platinum.

check the spark plug wires for dry rotting and check the order there in starting from the back of the motor left to right the order go's 1..2..3 and then the front left to right the order go's 4..5..6 also make sure that all the wires are plugged in the right order on the distributor also it could be your TCS or "TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM"

If you live in the US, you can take your car to an Auto Zone store and they will read off the diagnostic code that is causing the check engine lamp to come on. Once you have that then you can decide your next course of action.
Hope this is of some help.

Hello
When the service engine
soon light a yellow light (Also called the check engine light or
engine management light) is turned on this is to alert you to the
fact that Powertrain Control Module (computer) has detected a
failure somewhere in the systems it controls you may not feel any
difference in the way the engine runs, this can be the transmission
or the engine or emission system, there are fault codes set in the
modules memory for these faults. What needs to happen now is to have
the powertrain control module scanned with a special tool called an
OBD2 electronic engine control scanner or a OBD2 code reader. Once
the code(s) are read then you must perform the diagnostics for each
code and make the appropriate repairs based on the findings of the
diagnosis that was performed, this is called doing "Pinpoint"
testing.
