Hello, I have a '93 Cutlass Ciera 3.3. I just got a brand new mass air flow sensor, a new battery and a new starter. the car turns over just fine but then cuts off shortly after idling. before the starter went out, i had to wait for the car to warm up a little before i could drive it and it would drive great even during the beginning of this winter. its still winter and rainy and snowy and the car wont stay on long enough to warm up even with all this new stuff in it. what is the deal!!??

Does the starter spin the motor at normal cranking speed? If there seems too much friction, try turning the engine over by hand to check if the engine turns freely. Put a socket and wrench on the center crankshaft pulley bolt and turn clockwise. If you cannot turn the crankshaft with a wrench easily, then the starter can't either. Turn the crank all the way around to check for something preventing cranking.
Is the battery still enough power to crank at normal speed? If it's already too low, recharge it, and try again.
run the fault codes
not running indicates that the air/ fuel ratio is incorrect for the ambient temperature so you should be checking the ambient temp sensor /baro sensor and coolant temp sensor
Sounds like your "Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is not working to raise RPM when engine is cold.
It is possible that the wires to the IAC were not reconnected when the MAF sensor was replaced.
It is also possible that another sensor, like engine temp sensor, was not reconnected after the work. Look carefully in the area around and under the MAF.
All else fails, the IAC is bad and needs to be replaced.
You installed a new Mass Airflow sensor and still runs poorly, then it sounds like the computer is messed up (ECU). First try to unhook the negative battery cable for a couple minutes, and plug the new airflow sensor in, reconnect battery terminal and let it run for a couple minutes with the part in. It can reset the ECU.
CHECK YOUR MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR....I REPLACE MY STARTER STAURDAY BECAUSE MY CAR STARTED BUT WON'T STAY STARTED BROUGHT A CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND STILL NOTHING THE WHOLE TIME MY MAF(MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR) HAD MALFUNCTION MIND YOU MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON.
I have a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera 3.8 ltr and for the life of me can't find out how to check the codes. I have looked and can't find the OBD1 plug in. I have been told I need to jump a and b something or another with a paper clip and read the lights on the dash. Can anybody fill me on how to do this. Thank you.
