your fuel injection system isn't holding residual pressure.  The valve in the fuel pump that holds the pressure is defective.

SOURCE: my 1993 Olds 88 wont start cranks but wont kick over. Fuel prob

3.8 are known for ignition trouble but first use the fuel release valve located on top of engine under a screw cap to see if your getting fuel. It takes 4 things to make engine run fuel spark air and compression. But most likely the Ign control module or crank sensor. So try this
1) check the fuel pressure
2) check for spark
3) compression test

SOURCE: 1989 vw jetta wont crank. replaced battery still wont start.

Ive got a Jetta 2 CSI and had the same trouble. I then discovered that my coldstart packed up, wich you cant even get at the agents anymore. So If you are in the Benoni area I can fix it for you for 'n reasonable price, and you won't have that trouble any longer. Mine is still starting by just touching the key. 0829484343

SOURCE: car turns over but wont start

Possible fuel pump or ignition coil. I know this is vague, but without seeing it, that's all I got. Chrysler has had a bad habit of mounting the ignition coil too close to the left exhaust manifold on 318s and 360s (5.2s and 5.9s). problem with that is, the thing gets VERY hot and breaks down, over time. Does anyone who drives the Durango have the nasty habit of driving when the gas light is on? The fuel pump is in the fuel tank to submerge it in gas, keeping it cool. Without the fuel present to cool the pump, eventually it burns itself out. Honestly, this seems like the most likely problem..... Not that either you or your wife would let the fuel get that low :). If the truck is 10 years old or so, has high mileage, or has had problems stalling when warm, then not restarting for an hour or so, it's time to look at the fuel pump. Know that the fuel pump on a Dodge Durango/Ram/Dakota is actually an assymply, with the pump built in and a massive screen. Usually runs around $550, parts, alone. Hope this helps, at least a little!

Wont start. Starter tries to engage but theres a "whirring" noise instead of the car starting

Sounds like starter solenoid is failing to kick in. The whirring is most likely the starter motor turning, but the teeth aren't engaging on the flywheel ring gear due to failed solenoid.

Car wont start

You need to know if the fuel pump is working.TURN KEY ON,BUT DON,T CRANK engine, Listen for the pump to kick on(should hear it.)IF the check engine light is on,have it scanned. A bad crank or cam sensor could prevent starting.IT could be anything from bad plugs, wires, out of gas, or bad sensors.

My car wont start... it turns over a couple of times but just wont kick then stops turning over and just clicks.. no idiot lights on...

Have your battery and charging system checked. The battery should turn over longer than this.Make sure the connections are clean and tight. You should also have your starting system checked.Auto Zone will check these for free.Hope this helps.Good luck.
