1999 ford escort zx2 battey indecator light is on on dash. have replaced alternator and replaced battery but battery light is still on and alternator is not charging battery
Check to make sure that there's power from the alternator to the battery on the charge-back wire. If nothing's there, then your alternator is junk and you'll have to replace it again.

Likely cause :: The alternator is malfunctioning -- could be loose / dirty connections; or it could be the voltage regulator in the alternator malfunctioing; or it could be the alternator itself failing.
check all fuses, if one is blown replace and see if it blows instantly. If it does then those wires to that circuit are melted causing a short which could be draining the battery. but also check the battery with a cold draw test to make sure batt is good. could of been a ground wire under dash that smoked but you should be able to locate a melted casing on a wire. check battery first to be sure.
when you jump start it it runs then you disconnect the cable and it dies? hope this is right. the alternator could be bad and the battery isnt getting a charge so it dies from running low on battery power.hope this helps
