2000 WJ jeep , USA
when STALLS only driving , any time , or just as I come to stop it stalls. or stalls parked only. my guess parked only.
which engine is there?
3.1L
4.0L
4.7L ?
what transmission, what A/T trans, 42rle or ?
mileage comp. like mine, it's useless. forget that. but dead battery reset that, and is of no matter.
questions are plenty on all cases: (cars are complex!)
the engine stalls.? sure.
in to gear means , Drive and Reverse right?
when you do that the PCM adds more air via the ISC idle speed control valve. and just my do that. and is good sign.
- besides stalling, does engine and trans work great , driving, like fast /slow, , hot/cold engine, , up hills too, fast?
- is the CEL lamp in dash on key on and off running.?
- did you check all fuses.
- what is miles on engine.
- when did it run perfect last, 1 week ago, 1year, 10 years?
- ever get and engine tune up this decade? spark parts and filters?
- is the ASD relay dropping out just before the stall>?
- is engine rpm below 800 RPM before the stall? hot engine.
- does engine reach and old full engine temp, 180F or more?
- use a scan tool and see all DTC errors yet, dont skip this.
THERE ARE NO CODES SHOWING ON THE COMPUTER AT THE GARAGE. SOME SAID TO TRY TIGHTING THE WIRES ON THE VEHICHLES COMPUTER
I had a friend put it on his dianostic he said since the check engine light wasn't on the computer was not picking up any codes. I then went to the dealership and told them what was happening and simply asked them what it could possibly be (hoping they could point me in the right direction) I do not have the money to pay the fees and the vehicle is not under warrenty that is why i am asking online for a little help maybe my husband can put the part in him self if he had an idea of what part to start with.
between b&c terminal on the crank sensor harness (from the sensor) you should show no continuity. if any connection at all it is bad. Check while in no start.
If the dealer says it's the crank sensor, (and they did evaluation) I would be a bit arrogant (not being there) to dispute that. It does seem to indicate a sensor that is in the process of failing. though there were a few other things I would also consider. As I understand it the shop CAN read the computer, but there are NO STORED CODES. I believe that you do have lights on the dash display, but the check engine light has not come on. I recommend that you do not attempt to tighten anything It was just checked and likely it's tight enough.
In other words, don't mess with it and let the dealer do their thing!!
could be crank sensor, that's common but it should set a code...They can read the computer but it's not showing up or they can't read computer?
