1. change air filter. 2 check timing. 3 check all fuel lines and connections for leakage. 4. dirty or clogged injectors.

just a guess but might be a fuel pump, try smacking the tank before you start it and see if it idles better after.

check the o2 sensor, throttle body, vaccum lines, that timing and spark is correct and working on all cylinders( broken plug or wires), try the module on the distributor sometimes that can do it to but usally it runs good then gets bad as engine warms, to me is sounds like timing which also could be in the valvetrain or in the chain and gears in front... hopefully this gets you started in the right direction

This is very complex system. Best to have it checked by qualified diesel mechanic who has the proper equipment to check out all the systems, that could be related to the problem you are having. Just to start throwing parts at it can become very expensive very fast
