Location of the reverse backup light switch

Need to locate where the reverse backup switch goes on a 1988 v-6 305 5-speed chevy camero.
I was told it went on the drivers side attaching to the transmission. I did not fine that particular switch there at all.

At left (drivers side) rear of transmission, it should be threaded in, with wires running to it.

2003 Chevy Malibu back up light fuse location to be replaced.

Backup Lamps
The B/U LMP fuse #42 in the underhood junction block supplies ignition positive voltage to the park/neutral position switch. When the driver places the gear selector lever in the REVERSE position, the current flow is from the park/neutral position switch to the backup lamps. The backup lamps are grounded at G401 and G402.
Are you also having shifting problems ? If not , I can tell you it's not the fuse ! Wiring problem, the bulbs , park/neutral position switch !

Why backup lights blowing fuse every time the van is put in reverse.2000 chevy venture

Most likely the lead to the reverse lights has been worn through and is grounded out.

Remove both of your tail lights, Locate the wire for your reverse light and see if you can track it back very far to see if you can see the wire worn through anywhere. There is also a possibility that it could be worn and/or shorting near your reverse sensor switch (near your automatic transmission shifter stick)

also make sure your reverse lights are good and not filled with water or anything else either.

2000 chevy blazer automatic. reverse lights staying on????

sounds like you have a bad reverse switch, possibly neutral switch if the reverse circuit is built within the neutral switch.you could have a bad wire causing the lights to be on all the time(power worn though touching the wire that goes to the backup lights.

Location of the Backup light switch.

I didn't find a location for the backup light switch,

But found the following on Autozone.com:

Backup Light Switch Operation:
00610_backup_light_switch.jpgAn open switch that prevents voltage from being applied to the backup lights until the vehicle is put in reverse. Putting the vehicle in reverse closes the contact and applies power to the rear back-up lights. Check under the dash or somewhere near the steering column if you have a column shifter. If the shifter closes or opens the backup light switch mechanically, one should be able to trace the cable and mechanisms that turn a cam that connects to the backup light switch, somehow. May have to disassemble the steering column area to see it.

Where is the neutral safety switch on a 96 camero

The park/neutral position switch prevents the car from being started when the transmission is in any gear other than Park or Neutral.. When the transmission is in Reverse (with the engine running), the switch completes the back-up light circuit, illuminating the back-up lights.

Fig. 1: After removing the console, you can access the park/neutral position switch.

Hope help with this (remember rated this post).

Need to locate backup light switch on 1988 chevy 1500

I had the same problem. My backup lights wouldn't come on in when I put the auto. trans. shifter into the Reverse position. They WOULD come on briefly as I moved the shifter from Park position into Reverse, but would go off again when the shifter reached the Reverse detent. I got the solution from the Haynes service manual, in which the relevant switch is referred to as something like the neutral safety switch. Check on top of the steering column close to the firewall. Set the parking brake, then move the auto. trans. shifter into Neutral position. Get under the dash and rotate the neutral safety switch clockwise as far as it will go. Then move the shifter into the Park position, and your switch should be set. If the backup lights don't come on now when the shifter is put into Reverse position with the ignition switch 'on', there may be another problem.

Reverse lights don't work

simple thing first... make sure the bulbs are not burnt out... check the fuse.... then there is a sensor/switch located either on the steering colunm or on the transmission. quick test... put it in reverse and jiggle the shifter... if they come on that takes care of the first two issues....
