You do not need to replace the thermostat because you are not getting heat. what you need to do is to ensure the heater coolant control is operating to allow hot water through to the heater core.. If the thermostat was faulty you would be overheating or the temp gauge would not be getting of the cold mark.

Over heating think it is the water pump

It may be a couple of things, first before you replace the water pump, you need to warm the car up, and locate the thermostat houseing, it will have two hoses attached, and one will go to the radiator, and it will be on the engine, after you locate it, warm the car up, after it is warmed up, feel the hoses going too and from the thermostat houseing, if they are both warm, then it is not the thermostat, if they are not both warm, then your thermostat is junk, cheap fix, and easy to replace. let me know, and i will help you from their...........

Replace Thermostat in 1998 Buick Park Avenue

this doesnt sound like a thermostat problem, rather a restricted heater core.
The thermostat housing, however, is a cheap cross-your-fingers-fix, and can be located by tracing the upper radiator hose back to the engine. The housing the hose is clamped to is where the thermostat is located. Remove 2 bolts, and replace thermostat.

Heat

heater core is under the dash on the passenger side and the thermostat is located on the engine. just follow your top radiator hose from the radiator to the engine and it stops at the thermostat
