2002 Mustang won't start, won't crank. Battery is good, everything works with key in on position, 40 amp ignition fuse blows when the key is turned to start. The solinoid sill clicks, starter and solinoid have been removed and checked ok, engine turns by hand, starter relaynis ok. What next?

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.

Sounds like there's a grounded wire somewhere between the ignition switch and the solenoid. When you bypass the switch with the screwdriver you don't ground out the line, but with the switch the ground shorts the circuit, blows the fuse, and then won't start the engine.

Hi!!
You may have the positive cable hooked in the wrong side of the starting selenoid or the starter selenoid is defective.
Follow the RED (+) cable from the battery, it goes to the starter selenoid wich has two terminals, change the cable to the other terminal, that should take care of the problem unless the selenoid is stuck on. Replacement runs about $15.
Don't forget to rate this post. Good Luck!!

When you installed the starter you may have inadvertently put the gears in a bind. Make sure the bendix meshes properly with the flywheel. The bendix is the small gear on the starter that slides out and connects with the flywheel when the ignition key is turned.
