I have an 03 pontiac gtp supercharged. I have replaced the mass air flow sensor twice but after a while again I get erratic idle problems usually at first start up. this is a pieced together engine. The cat was removed when I bought it. Also occasionally my temp guage goes really high

(1) clean the throttle assembly. They are very sensitive to build up also and they are very cheap change out the throttle body sensor. The TBS allows are to by pass both of these will cause erratic ideal. The mass air flow will not cause erratic idle but your car will be very loud and run rough. Failing this (cheap fix) I would suggest to look at the ignition coils.

SOURCE: 1999 pontiac grand prix . will not run

If wiggling the wires cured the code, then one of the wires is broken inside the insulation. Pull on each wire one at a time. look for the colored insulation to stretch, this will be the broken wire. For the other car that wont rev up, this is a common when the catalytic concverter is plugged up. This will also cause MAF codes, and in turn, TRAC OFF light.

SOURCE: 1992 Pontiac Grand PrixPower loss, erratic idle

spark plug gaps are very critical on computerised cars!! [some wont even start!]
distributor module may be breeaking down as temp rises they fail!
otherwise do compression check as it may have valve problems
also check plug leads & injectors aswell as the fuel pump pressure [ could bestarving for fuel]

SOURCE: high rev problem

this problem I find in alot of 3.4 ltre grand-ams and that is the wiring go to the intake air temp sensor is broken at the connector. the wire will look good but in the insulation it will be broken. just give each wire a tug, if the wire pulls out then that is the broken one.

SOURCE: HELP!! Having electrical issues with my 2005 Pontiac

electical is hard to diagnose with out being there. i would treat each problem seperately. first you will need to test the engine temp gauge sending unit. in a dealership this is easy with a scanner they can run a sweep test to se if the gauges are responding.you don't want the engine to over heat if the gauge is not working. next problem the dome light should be easy to fixe does the dome light work with the dome switch?remove the bulb and with the doors open and switch on check for voltage, if voltage check connection and or replace bulb. if no voltage check fuses for voltage.last will need to have the dtc po243 checked out by a repair shop. i hope this will help.

Why does my 99 pontiac grand prix gtp supercharge keep stalling

I would check the idle air control valve before replacing anything.
The computer regulates the idle speed by controlling the amount of air entering the intake thru the throttle body.
The valve could be faulty, or the throttle body can be gummed up.
Is the check engine light on ?

1999 pontiac sunfire sits in pouring rain then sputters and check engine light flashes

You definitely have a faulty MAF (mass air flow) sensor. The MAF controls the idle of the car that when it's faulty an erratic idle may occur. You may even end up stalling during take off so have the MAF replaced. It is located on the throttle body.

Have a 03 durango just had fuel pump, spark plugs replaced now its cutting out and the check engine light flashes for a few seconds, and idles funny once in awile

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Looks like that you have a faulty TPS (throttle position sensor) or MAF (mass air flow) sensor. If one of the sensors are faulty you'll have erratic idle. Have it replaced to resolve the problem.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

C220-manual transmission. erratic idling and sometimes idles up and down. Has been serviced and throttle body cleaned but still does this. Happens more often when the engine is warm.

according to your information it's faulty mass air flow sensor, check mass air flow sensor first, when the Idle rough just disconnect the air flow sensor wiring socket if it's better than when it's connected it's faulty air flow sensor, mass air flow sensor have fitted between air cleaner housing and throttle body, you can see wiring connector been connect on it you have to turn it anticlockwise and remove it. when you fix it back do the reverse order, if it's faulty replace air flow sensor. is this information helped you?
