Make sure you have the correct oil in it, and the correct amount.

SOURCE: oil pressure gauge reads past 80

now unless there is a very loud knocking of the motor which would mean that the engine's top end was not getting any oil I would say that your oil guage is sprung and needs replacing. a high pressure rating would indicate a restriction in the oil flow pasdt the sending unit or a plugged oil filter. if the filter were plugged you would know it because your enging would run tight in no time at all. replace the guage itself... please rate this........thanks

SOURCE: low oil pressure after engine warms up in 94 blazer with 4.3

I have a 99 blazer and ever since I have owned it, it reads lower in pressure when idling, but will go up too 40 while driving. This is normal for the vehicle. If the pressure gets real low, and stays low, it means its time for an oil change.

As long as the pressure goes up when you give it gas, it is fine.

Testimonial: "But why has it started reading low, especialy after the new oil pump was put on. It read a constant 40 even when idling before."

SOURCE: just changed the oil pressure switch and the gage is buried

There was not a recall, but there was a class action settlement where GM agreed to extend the warranty on certain vehicles for this problem. Check www.gmspeedometerrecall.com to see if you qualify.

SOURCE: oil pressure gauge is reading 80 psi. I had the

The oil sending unit is located on the engine block behind the drivers cylinder head area. You have to climb up on the motor to see it cause it is hard to see behind the wiring harness. You may also want to purchase a new sending unit because it is very long and you might need to buy the sending unit socket to replace it.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Why does my oil gage reads lo and after idling for a while cuts off

as the vehicle warms up the oil pressure normally will decrease. I am assuming the oil pressure is too low for this vehicle ,and oil pressure sensor is cutting engine off.

I have 2002 trailblazer and the instrument panel keeps saying xheck gauges.then everything starts working again

Check gages means that one of the gages is reading an abnormal reading, like hot engine oil pressure issues, charging system voltage, pay attention next time it happens to the readings on the gages for something out of the normal

2001 f-150 oil pressure gage indictates no pressure at start up

Remove the oil pressure sending unit and have a test gauge hooked up and see if the sending unit is defective. If you really have low pressure the engine should be making lots of noises.

CHANGED MY OIL BECAUSE GAGE WAS READING LOW OIL PRESSURE AND I HAD NO OIL LIFE, TRIED TO RESET OIL LIFE TO 100%, WHICH I DID BUT ON MY DASH ITS STILL READING LOW OIL PRESSURE AND THE GAGE GOES BACK AND...

you either have a faulty oil pressure switch or you have poor oil pressure.if you find the oil pressure switch remove it and install a manuel oil pressure guage there. then you will see if it is the actual oil pressure weak or if it is the switch.

Oil gauge drops to 0 after engine is warm, checked oil. it was low apox 2qt filled it up , restarted motor, ran for a few min. again same problem. now when shut off and restarted it does the same thing?

when you say it does the same thing the iol level keeps going down that would be a major problem
if the oil pressure keeps droping check the pressure with an external gage do not rely on the factory one if the pressure is good the factory gage could be bad if not you could have a bad oil pump

The oil pressure gage started registering 1/4 instead of it's normal 1/2 even at 1700 rpm. I FREAKED! Thoughts?

I have an oil pressure gauge that reads in analog, 0 to 150? something like that, any way, it moves like a tachometer, idle down around 10, revs up to 55, 60 when taking off and then settles down at 35 while cruising, I notice a change with heavier oil. Also, I know it will read 55 lbs pressure with 1 qt of oil in there, I tried it. So the pressure gauge has nothing to do with amount of oil in engine. As long as it is full, It should be ok, as long as it is reading pressure, but if the pressure drops off, shut it down and find out what happened, If it loses all the oil, the temp light should come on long before the oil light.

The oil pressure gage is reading zero and the oil is full. How can I tell if it is the gage or the oil pump?

It is quite possible that the Oil pressure guage is faulty or else with a zero reading of the oil pressure the engine would have packed out. So removing the valve door will confirm if there is oil flow and confirm the guage. You can also remove the line to the guage and connect the line to a bottle, when the engine starts up the oil pressure will be displayed with a good pressure spray.... but be careful not be spray it all over with a loose joint.

What is the check gauges light

CHECK GAGES light (1) indicates a potential engine failure(low oil pressure, low coolant, coolant overheating) has occurred.
· Check gages and shut down engine. Gages should read as follows: Oil pressure 5 to 10 psi (34 to 69 kPa) at idle; Water Temp gage below 230 degrees (110 C).
· Check engine oil level (Para 2-11) if OIL PRESS gage indicates low reading. Check coolant level (Para 2-11) if Water Temp gage indicates high reading. Notify Unit Maintenance if levels are low.

If CHECK ENGINE light (2) is on, check engine oil pressure gage (3) and water temperature gage (4). If both indicate normal, proceed with mission and then notify Unit Maintenance. If either one does not indicate normal, stop engine immediately and notify Unit Maintenance

Low Oil Pressure on 1992 Chevy 1500 Pickup Truck

Hi! The problem you are outlining is very similar to the Rover V8 (Buick engine). We Brit's are used to the low oil pressure when warm. I presume a complete oil change engine flushed with new replacement filter has been carried out? Maybe a top quality synthetic oil with additive may help. You may take it a little further and replace the oil pump with an after market performance up rated one. If you really are worried about low oil pressure damage whilst in low rev's try Molybnenum Disulphide an oil additive which really reduces friction metal to metal wear particulary in the situation you are describing.
That's the best I can suggest at this moment.
Good Luck! and Happy New Year!
