Airbag warning dash light on/off when turning Dodge Dakota 2004

I have some rattling vibration under the front-end like a hard vibration. A garage near by tells me that come from the front sway bars, that rubber bushings are worn out.
He is saying, that all the rest is safe and is nothing else loose. I can hear this noise when I go over bumps, dirt roads. Is very loud and It sound that is on the front right side.
All of the sudden my Airbag dash light start it acting on/off. When I make a turn will go on, then off on a straight run, dirt road on, When I turn the engine the light will go on then off, soon as I move the light goes on then off. On/off intermittent. I turned the passenger air bag off to check this problem. That light is lit when is off. That tells me that the passenger Airbag is ok. (maybe).
Is this maybe related to the rattling, vibration, or the sensor on the front got corroded. There is any way to troubleshoot this problem. Where I can find a diagram for the sensors front bumper sensors and others. So I can clean them or replace.
The Dodge dealers are not very honest around here, I have experienced that with them. Is Impossible to trust them.
I will really appreciate if you guys can help with this.

Answer by chryslerguy=You have two separate problems. The noise in the front is possibly the sway bar bushings, there was a problem with them on the dakota, durango and caravans. The airbag light problem is probably the clockspring. It is behind the steering wheel.

Comment posted on May 15, 2009 Thank you. I think you are right, I drove the truck today and now I'm noticing that the light comes on when I make a turn and then off when I'm going straight.
1)There is any way to replace this clockspring my self. Where exactly behind the steering wheel is located. Any diagrams?
2)is this spring related to steering wheel sensor.?
Yes also you are right. My local garage not the Dodge service wants me to replac all the sway bar bushings.
The truck has now 72.000 miles

SOURCE: sway bar bushing and links

It will allow extra sway which will alter your handling in the near future and in time will do damage to the rest of the suspension.

You will have to replace the entire clockspring. I highly recommend having it done at a repair shop because it involves removing the air bag which contains a small explosive device and can be dangerous to someone not trained in removing it.

Hi

You can reset a service code on the s80 but not an airbag light. Partly this is a safety measure to stop people extinguishing important errors like this without addressing a potential fault in the safety system.

You will have to go to the dealer to get this light extinguished as it needs to be read and reset by their OBD reader.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer.

Many thanks.

2004 Dodge Dakota. I hit the brake pedal and the whole truck vibrated in the front end.

Question moved to model category.

It could be a few things, none of them good and all dangerous. Have it checked out by a mechanic. A few of the reasons in the link, disc brakes and suspension are the most likely.

To turn off the airbag light on my truck

If your airbag light is on, that means the airbag doesn't work in case of a crash. So it's important you get it checked, most likely there is a bad contact between the airbag ecu and the airbag, a common bad contact is in the wiring in the steering collum.

I pulled the dash out to change the heater core and now I have problems with the airbag. When I turn the key on, the airbag light comes on, then cycles off and after two seconds, comes back on and stays...

Check that fuses 18 and 19 are both good (located in junction block under cover at left end of dash). And check that the ground wire for the airbag system is grounded. It is a wire with an eyelet that attaches to a fastener on the left side of the transmission hump near the airbag controller.

2004 dodge ram 1500 2WD front end making a metal on metal sound going over small surface bumps like rail road tracks. I have had trhe front end inspected 3 times for the possible cause. All garages tell me...

Interesting problem although aggravating. Take a bottle of Dawn washing up liquid,(or equivilent) and drive the vehicle to the nearest railroad crossing. Squirt the soap all over the mounting rubbers on the shocks and anti roll /sway bar. Drive across the railroad crossing and listen for the noise. if none then you have narrowed the search. next do a simple process of elimination regarding the soaped rubber mountings etc.

However,a Dodge noise making rattle when crossing any uneven surface can be caused by the front grille securing fixtures coming loose and allowing the grille to rub and vibrate on the sheet metal. I have an older Dodge with stainless steel wiring fitted to resolve that same problem! It's not an obvious fault but it really is an aggravating one.

Service air bag light on. Limits the car to 90 mph

HI, First off, it's hard to say what is causing the rattling under your car (for anyone, even a tech driving your car), so the best way to find out is to have it put on a lift and checked. Many service centers that sell shocks adn struts will take a look for you, mostly because it's a potential job for them. Any shop that would charge you to do this is not the place you should be taking it to. Second, in the STS, while there are airbag sensor problems reported occasionally, the sensors are usually the ones behind the front bumper. Is it possible that the person who told you this may be talking about the "shock" (hydrolic piston) that the front bumper is attached to? The sensors are right there, and maybe they mean that a bad piston can create a problem with the airbag sensor. That sounds accurate. As far as while you're driving, the sheer forward air pressure forced against the front bumper may be setting off the faulty sensor warning. It's speculation at this point, but it just may be the problem. You can take care of these individual things in a measured way, and avoid paying for unnecessary repairs.
