SOURCE: cruise control won't work
Does the on light in the dash come on? If not, you may have a broken switch in the steering wheel which is a fairly cheap repair. Otherwise, the controls work through the Printed Circuit Board in your dash (your instrument cluster) and the problem could be as simple as a solder defect or faulty component. The problem is that no Ford Service Technician that I know will touch this and tell you that you need to replace it.
The instrument cluster is very easy to replace but may cost you a few more dollars than you want to spend. I would have someone with an electrical background check the cruise control switches in your steering wheel with a multimeter before going any further with this. Also check the wiring for resistance leading from the switch to the cluster.

There actually is a Fuse and a Relay for this. There should be a Fuse in the Cab Fuse Box and a Relay in the Fuse Relay Box under the Hood. These are where I would start.

I had the same problem on mine - just check the end of the cruise control cable under the big plastic cover of the engine. good luck!

Fuse is marked "ASC" 10A Speed Control (passenger compartment fuse box), most likely this will not be the problem, and if th fuse blew then there is a short and it won't work, the most common cause is the cruise control switch circuit.

really tough to do on the net but first we need to know about any codes...
Hold speed control OFF button, and turn ignition switch to RUN position. CRUISE indicator should flash once to indicate successful entry into self-diagnostic mode. If CRUISE indicator does not flash, start procedure over. If CRUISE indicator still does not flash, repair system by symptom there might be some switch concern
If CRUISE CONTROL indicator flashes once followed by 5 additional flashes, replace speed control servo/actuator.
Release speed control OFF button. Within 5 seconds in entering self-diagnostics, press speed control ON button. Press remaining speed control buttons in the following sequence; ON, RES, COAST and SET/ACCEL.
As each button is pressed, CRUISE indicator will flash.
Wait until indicator light goes out, then press next button. After sequence has been completed, indicator light will flash to indicate test passed or failed. With the codes we can then better diagnose your concern
Immediately after static test has passed, actuator performs a dynamic test by automatically operating throttle .04-.40" (1-10 mm). Observe throttle movement to witness any sticking in cable or linkage. Ensure throttle returns properly. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. If self-diagnostics do not pinpoint fault there is more we can do but tough over the net
