2.0 L RF I4 (diesel)
eg;
he RF is a SOHC, two valves-per-cylinder engine. (older FE)
One of Mazda's more popular diesel engines, it was also available with a pressure wave supercharger called Comprex.

2.0 L RF/RFM I4 (diesel)
2.0 L RHW/RHZ I4 (diesel)

and that means pumps ,relays EFI, etc. all parts fuel. for sure.
As of 2003, the smaller Suzuki Vitara has been withdrawn from the North American market.!!!!!!
no engine, no books. no car. strike 3.
why not post to a non usa car forum even a real suzuki forum.?
many suzuki use a large pink wire for the pump power
this can be a big clue, looking at the relays.
tell him to get it fixed.
or buy the FSM and do what it tells.
run the tests, on the system.
2.0 L RFI4 (diesel
this is a MAZDA engine. based off their FE. so you can either buy the Suzuki fsm and read about it or
read up on the mazda TDI controls.
id check compression first. (make sure engine block is ok)
then work controls.

Suzuki uses up to 53 different engines world wide. and many diff, diesels depending on your countries smog rules. post location, old post, but i do the unanswered.
The 1.9-litre diesel engine in the latest version is sourced from
Renault and delivers a hefty 221 ft lbs of torque for reassuring
operation both on and off road. This power makes the Grand Vitara a far
more versatile proposition, with even enough power to pull a small
caravan if required.
YOU HAVE 1999 VITARA .I DIDNT SEE NO 1997 DIESEL VITARA. YOU HAVE 1.6 OR 2.0 ENGINE.TO GET A TRANSMISSION YOU HAVE 2WD OR 4WD THAT WHAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN TRANSMISSION.
