1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 Standing in front of car looking at the engine, Cyl. 1 is on the right, Cyl. 2 is on the left, then they count towards the rear. So on the right side is 1-3-5-7, on the left is 2-4-6-8.
1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2. is firing order, distributor rotates clockwise. Standing in front of, right side 1,3,5,7. left, 2,4,6,8.
Been there, done that, in the earlier years. One thing good to know for future. When your wondering which cylinder is # 1, on any V-6 or V-8 engine, stand beside front of engine, (fender) look across front & whatever cylinder head sticks out the farthest towards front of vehicle, that is # 1.on that side.
Set your timing marks at TDC on compression stroke & distributor rotor should be pointing at #1 wire terminal on cap.
As mentioned above. Your rotor under cap will be pointing at #1 if your at "top Dead Center" on compression stroke. When your sure you've found #1, next one going clockwise beside #1 is # 8, then next one clockwise is # 4, then 3, 6, 5 ,7 ,2. Have a look at how far the wire has to go, from cap to spark plug to determine the best suited length.
Does that help?
Your welcome, good luck.
