Dodge intrepid runs shut off. Started after I changed the window and mirror switches.

I changed the two switches and when I turned off the engine, it kept running with the key in my hand. We disconnected the switches and connected one at a time. Window switch - car shut off fine. Mirror switch - car kept running. We disconnected the conection and the engine stopped. What is causing this weird thing! Is my mirror possessed?

Sounds wierd but if you explained this correctly, that when mirrors or dis connected car will shut off, if this is correct then there is a short back feeding power to the ignition or computer keeping the engine running, check the wiring going to mirrors and see if there are shorted wires, this is where i would start

IT was very weird! But when we disconnected the mirror switch, the engine cut off. We will check this and see what happens. Thank goodness my mirrors were set. Thanks for the suggestion.

SOURCE: 2000 dodge intrepid won't start

If the key is returning to  the 'Run' position as it should, then either a relay controlling the solenoid or the solenoid itself is hanging up. The heavy contacts that send power to the starter can develop rough surfaces that can temporarily weld themselves together causing the starter to run on even though the engine is running and the key has returned to the proper position. There is also a spring that should normally help return the solenoid's contacts to their 'off' position that may be weakened.

SOURCE: engine won't stop running

First of all;

1- If your engine fuel “gas" accelerator linkages not binding or wedges between
other parts of frame or engine!!!
Look for the above problem first, then if it's OK.

2- Your car engine timing could be ON ****** NOT on advance....
Timing should be always on advance (which is the correct
situations" """ Timing in advance start from "0”, "4" "6" ,"8",
"10", "12"
IN ****** start from "0”, "4”, etc.

If you have improper TIMING (especially in ******) you'll have
mostly very high temperature most of the time, which will
eventually damage your engine AND it's (the temperature)
is a KILLER for your Automatic
(If your transmission is) transmission.

I hope I helped you.

RAM,
Earth.

Intrepid won't shut off

Use Diagnostic Unit, you will not find your fault any other way, (ie) fitting parts that you might think will work , is costly.

CAR WILL NOT START HAS NEW STARTER NEW BATTERY EVERY THING WORKS NEW OIL CHANGE BUT WILL NOT START DODGE INTREPID 2000 2.7 ENGINE

First of all before you spend a lot of money with computer mechanic or personal machanics
try a little trouble shooting yourself. My sons neon would not start it started out as beinging a intermittent problem 1. It had a very old battery we replaced it seemed like this sovled the problem it started and ran for a couple of weeks, then same problem. This seemed like it may be a wiring or inition problem, jumped from the + batt. to the starter relay coil w/ key turned on it started every time was thinking it was the inition. Tried one more thing switched A/C relay w/starting relay in engine compartment fuse box. wa la no money for the greedy mechanic.

Car engine just stopped running - out of the blue, no warning.

First thing is to check all the fuses...next would be to look for a burned wire....in the harness that runs behinf the engine.

2000 Dodge Intrepid Wont Start

first of all, check your code to see what the car computer shows. To do that , insert the key in the ignition and switch it on three time within 2 seconds and the third time live the key in the on position. All the instrument panel lights will lite and the oddometer will display the fault code that may br the cause for your car not starting. goood luck.
