2000 mazda mpv transmission shifter won't move. it is stuck, the indicator on the dash that tells you what gear it is in is not lit up. It is a little box that usually goes around the letter indicating if it is in Drive, Park or Reverse and it is not on.
It's a fuse issue. Part of the shift interlock system.
If the radio is also not working, it's the cigarette lighter fuse. This one fuse controls the cigarette lighter, the radio, and the shift interlock system. It's in the kick panel fuse box on the driver's side.
If it's not that fuse, it's the "Stop" fuse in the same panel. Both blown fuses create the same behavior.
Easy fix! Don't bother with a mechanic. If the fuse continues to blow, take it to be checked.
Good luck.
Need to replace brake safety switch and have the gear indicator checked. the brake switch activates when the brake is pressed that allows you to move the gear selector.
