Electrical When very damp or raining all of my lights blink on and off rapidly. What causes this? I am afraid I will get stopped by law enforcement if I am driving in the dark and all my lights flash on and off. Have had 2 garages look for a solution and neither could find anything. Can you help?

The most likely cause is a broken seal, usually around the windshield, which is allowing water to leak into the electrical components under the dash.

Same thing happened to 2002 Suburban and it turned out to be the cables which are connected the window regulator (motor), assuming you have power windows. You will need to remove the panel on the passenger side door to determine the cause. It could be one of three things, the cables, the regulator, or a broken fuse or wire stopping the electrical current...this is pretty rare especially if this is the only window which is not operating.

I don't really know the answer, however, I would like to share my story with you, in case this happens to be the case with you. My older Volvo had all kinds of problems but only when warm and when it was wet outside. I had a mechanic that was throwing parts at it until my dad told me to go to an electrical specialist. He found out that the ground to the chasis of the car was not good, and in fact, when it was hot, it actually got red hot. The water aggravates electrical shorts. A bad ground is more common than most people think.

This could be violation of State law to sell vehicle with known brake problems, would check with law enforcement. Otherwise sounds like some kind of electrical problem and sounds very unsafe. What if you are going down road at 50 mph and it shifts into reverse?

I have seen cars with lights full of rainwater. Check all lights for evidence of getting wet, dirt may be inside. Once you find a suspect, unplug it and go through a carwash. Once you are sure, change the light fixture.

check the ground on the signal lamp. If the signal blinks rapidly that indicates an overload condition. a bad conection can cause and overload as the circuit tries to overcome the unkown resistance.

There could be several things that will cause your blinkers to stop working. Most will have to be diagnosed by a QUALIFIED automotive electrical shop but there is one thing you can try first. Step one is to turn your blinker stalk rapidly between right and left turn. Don't damage anything, just go back and forth several times real fast. Next, turn your emergency flashers on and off. Rapidly, like you did with the turn signal stalk. Again, don't damage anything, just do it as rapidly as you can, several times. What you are trying to do is clean the contacts inside the switches. Those two circuits work together to operate the turn signal lights and the emergency flashers are rarely, if ever, used and the contacts get a little corroded.
