Saturn SL 2002 High Idle

High Idle on a Saturn 2002 SL1 manual. I've replaced the IAC, PCV, and TPS. I'm still getting idle levels between 2,500-3,000 RPMs. The car runs fine other than when idling but it gets really loud at every stop light!! Any solutions? Also, readings tell me error codes P0301 and P0507. Those translate to cylinder 1 misfire and IAC idle speed higher than expected.

When I spry the cleaner near the intake should the rpms go higher or lower? I plan on seeing if I can replace the gasket myself tomorrow.

I have the same problem but I have changed the idle air control valve and put back everything correctly. Now when I start my car it won't stop reving. It will only rev at 4000 rpm. Any ideas whats the problem now. I've taken it apart and put it back together 3 times. I can't figure out why it's reving higher then it did before now!!

Intake manifold gasket. Leaking where intake meets head.

start engine and spray carburetor or brake cleaner where intake port for cylinder one meets head. rpms should change. (this is also causing the miss)

That would be a defective idle air control valve or leaky vacuum hose

My 2001 Saturn sl1 will not start or stay running won't idle. I changed plugs wires checked fuel pressure and tps only thing left I can think of is map sensor. Any suggestions are welcome plz.

Have you removed and checked the IAC? (Idle air control)
Will it stay running when you manually hold the throttle? keeping the idle up?

99 sl1 with 1.9 has high idle and will not idle below 1200 in drive

remove the throttle body (4 bolts) and then remove the idle air control (bolted to the TB, between the firewall and the throttle body)-clean the TB, the Idle air controller and remove the Throttle Position Sensor (opposite the IAC) and clean it if necessary. The IAC carbons up on these cars, as does the Throttle body-I know, I have a 99 SL with 180,000 miles, it is almost like an oil change as they get older.

My 1995 saturn sl1 will idle high and stutter. The check engine light comes on when this happens. What is the problem?

firs check the engine light code..and u go from there, you have to know what the code is.otherwise it could be a number of things. fo example egr, tps,map sensor, iac valve, fuel filter.

Saturn 1999 sl Engine has a high idle speed. How do I find, replace, inspect IAC?

The Idle Air Control valve is located on the throttle body. If you follow the intake tube from your air filter all the way back to the intake manifold, where the intake tube connects to is the throttle body. Remove the intake tubing and you can see the throttle body.

There are two sensors on the throttle body and a vacuum line. You'll see two harnesses going to the throttle body, one is the IAC.

However, a quick diagnostic check can be done without touching the throttle body to confirm your problem. If the car has a normal idle when initially started but then rises to a higher idle and stays there BUT then if you were to shut the car off and restart it and it comes back to normal that is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). This is also located on the throttle body (the other sensor to the IAC). If it is the IAC it will be high and maybe fluctuate a bit.

I have a Saturn 2002 SL1 The RPM remain at 2500-3000 RPM when shifting gears. After abotu 30 seconds the RPM will come down to 900 while sitting at a light. What would be the best place to start chasing...

Sounds like a dirty IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. It is located on the throttle body. Remove it and clean it throughly as well as the throttle body underside as well where a lot of carbon build up is.

However, since it is such a high idle, check for any vacuum leaks. Check your hoses and lines running inside the engine bay, specifically near the intake. Spray some carb cleaner around while the engine is running to see if you can hear or see a leak. Check the intake gasket as well.

Car idles too high. Had a replacement idle control valve 3 months ago which resolved the same problem, but it has restarted again now.

check TPS (throttle position switch)connections and TPS switch are renound for issues may need adjusting base idle, also check pcv hole in throttle body base manifold area clean out throttle body also if carboned up
is also possible this idle air control valve (IAC) is sticky due to carbon build up clean with carby cleaner or some sort of solvent
