Try replacing the bulbs in the tailight assembly, they do this sometimes when they are faulty, but still working. Eventually they will burn out completely from staying on.

Brake lights stay on 2001 hyundai elantra

probably switch at the brake pedal, have somebody stand behind and lift the pedal and see if it goes out, check the switch it may be out of line with the pedal. most likely it works by a button that is pushed when you push the pedal. if it is not this switch then you may have a short somewhere across the brake wire

Stop lights wont stay on when i step on brake pedal on 2001 expedition

I had this same problem (brake lights won't come on when pushing on brake) I found that the brake light sending unit had come out of adjustment.Look under the dash by the brake pedal. There is a plastic threaded unit that needs to be pushed back towards the brake pedal lever.Careful not to push it to far or the brake lights will stay on. Hope this helps

Brake lights stay on permanently on 97 ford escort.

the cause is the brake light switch on the backside on top of the brake pedal. it is either out off adjustment or it needs replaced. this switch activates the brake lights when pushing on brake pedal. if it gets out of adjustment or sticks the brake lights will stay on because it does not cut voltage to brake lights. have a good day !!

Brake light stays on

the switch for your brake lights is located near your brake pedal,it is usually a spring loaded switch that comes out when the pedal is pushed & the pedal pushes it back in when it is released, this switch may have come loose & is active all the time, you need to make sure that it is pushed hard up against the brake pedal & tighten the adjusting screws to lock it in position, check that your stop lights come on when the brake pedal is pushed in....hope this helps....cheers

Brake light switch replacement brake lights stay on in 1990 toyota corolla

IF YOU ARE SAYING THAT YOU HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE SWITCH AND NOW THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON THEN THE PROBLEM IS THAT YOU DID NOT SCREW THE BRAKE SWITCH IN FAR ENOUGH.IT HAS A BUTTON ON THE TIP OF THE SWITCH AND IF THAT BUTTON DOES NOT REST ON THE BRAKE PEDAL,YOUR BRAKE LIGHTS WILL STAY ON.WHEN YOU PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE BUTTON POPS OUT OF THE SWITCH WHICH MAKES THE LIGHTS TURN ON.WHEN YOU RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL,IT GOES BACK UP AND PUSHES THE BUTTON BACK IN WHICH MAKES THE LIGHTS GO OFF.ALSO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR ELECTIRCAL PLUG IS CONNECTED SECURELY AND ALL THE WAY PLUGGED IN.I HOPE THIS INFO HELPS, TAKE CARE AND GOOD LUCK, MANNY

Brake lights stick on

It sounds like the brake light switch down on the brake pedal is stuck and it needs replaced,Its got like a push button setup when you apply the brakes the brake pedal pushes the brake switch button in brake lights come on and when you relase the brake pedal the button on the switch comes back out and brake lights go out but if switch is worn out or sticking the lights will stay lit even when off the brake pedal so just replace the brake light switch down on the brake pedal.

Brake lights come on and stay on when started.Recently replaced left brake light bulb

It sounds like the brake switch on the brake pedal arm is stuck its like a push button type switch when you press the brake pedal down it pushes the button in on the switch which makes the brake lights come on,when you take your foot off the brake pedal the button is supposed to come back out if it doesn't the brake lights will stay on.

2003 Nissan Sentra Brake lights stay on

When you depress the brake pedal, the brake pedal will move away from the brake light switch and cause a close circuit and the brake lamps light up. There is a rubber bunk on the pedal which pushes against the brake light switch to shut it off when you release the brake pedal. Most likely this rubber bunk has either fallen off or disintegrated leaving a hole in the brake pedal so there is nothing to push against the switch to shut it off. Look up the brake pedal until you see the brake light switch, then depress the brake pedal to see if the rubber bunk is still there. It is easy to replace. Or you can use some double sided adhesive tape and a coin and stick the coin over the hole in the brake pedal.
