The security alarm on my 1993 jeep grand cherokee is preventing my vehicle from starting. It's a used car. I need to kill the alarm permanently, as this is a reoccurring problem. Please help! Where is the kill switch in this car and can I please have instructions, I'm young and this is my first vehicle - barely get to drive it though, cuz it won't start! X-O

Jack up your Cherokee and look underneath for a wiring harness that leads to a sensor that is between the engine and trans. This is your crank sensor. Pull it out and check the condition. Mainly look at the wiring harness to the sensor. These Jeeps have a habit of breaking and your Jeep with just turn off going down the road. These wiring harnesses are available at the dealer and are fairly inexpensive.

That remote should not be able to be programmed by you, it needs to be programmed by the dealer using their computer. I know that some later and earlier models can be programmed by the user, but I did some research on this as i have a 96 as well and it seems the 96 was a dealer computer thing. If you in fact bought the remote from the dealer they should be willing to program it for FREE. Otherwise I was given a $30 estimate for the programming.

No, not with out a lot of work. Electronics are most likely different on the 2 also.
SOURCE: alarm went off, car wont start. reset switch??
Pull the battery cables, hold them together for 3-5 minutes, this resets the cpu in the car. That should fix it.
