Our Airbag light is lit up on the dash of our 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport Pickup 3.9L and the airbag has NOT been deployed. Any ideas of what the problem is??
Is there anything that we can do to check what the problem might be when the airbag light is lit up on the dash and the airbag has definitely NOT deployed,( other than take it to a dealer)? This is for a 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport Pickup 3.9L

Speed....point of impact.....all make a difference on when an airbag deploys it is possible to have an accident and the airbag will not deploy the sensors have to register an impact of certain size and weight to deploy .....in older cars you are probably glad they did not deploy because they often blacked eyes broke noses and caused Neck injury by the amount of force they deployed at..

Normally the light comes on when airbag fuse is blown. But it could be a bad airbag sensor located at the front of the vehicle. Check fuse first, if that's not it, I would recommend taking it to a mechanic to have sensor changed. They are very delicate sensor and could deploy airbag if not done carefully.
My 97 has a place in the dash under the radio to insert your ignition key where you can turn the passenger side airbag off. If I were you i wouldnt pull the fuse for it because it could tell the computer that there is a problem that could cause other problems. Just turn it off with your key.
Hi. The light activates when there is a problem with the airbag arming thus while the light is on it will NOT deloy. A quick fix might be removing the connectors to the battery, resulting in a computer system restart possibly eliminating a false activation of the light, If the problem persists take it to the dealer for a diagnosis "due to the complexity of the entire airbag system".. do not attempt any kind of service to this system on your own.
An airbag is not likely to falsely deploy. Whenever the light is on it means the airbag system is disabled. However it is never safe driving a vehicle with a malfunctioning airbag system.
you need to have it checked out.with the light staying on in an accident the airbag may not deploy. the most likely cause is a bad clockspring but further diagnosis is needed
I don't know what state you are in... but in Massachusetts your truck will not pass inspection if the air bag is tampered with. A missing airbag will report to the OBD (your computer) and will cause a fail for your safety inspection. Sorry!
