1990 ford bronco 2 , 2.9 motor . What tells the fuel pump to stop after you turn the key to the run position. It's only supposed to run 3 sec. Mine runs for sometimes 5min. And truck won't start untill pump stops. Fuel pressure is correct and pump sounds strong.

SOURCE: 1992 ford ranger

If this speratic problem seams to happen most when it's raining or damp, it is a shorting master contol that is to blame. The master control mother board is located on the firewall. Over time, the moisture seal on the cover fails and the motherboard gets damp and meny false signals are sent. This can even happen if the truck is off and key is not in the ignition (this mother board will alwas have power going to it as long as the battery is connected). A cheap way to check this is to remove the cover, put a plastic grocery bag over the mother board and use an small elastic band to close the open end, allow the wires connected to the mother board to go out the open end. If this solves the problem, replace the seals on the master control cover. Care should be taken as if there is ANY corrossion on the mother board, it will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: 1996 GMC K1500 Pickup Starting Problem

i would try a fuel filter first. the fuel gauge going crazy is most likely the sender they go bad and eventually stop working. the bummer is you have to replace the fuel module. these aftermarket are about 200 bucks. the module comes with the pump and sender which is the next part you want to look at. gm has some issues with the harness to the fuel pump externaly. it actualy will melt and start to lose conection. i would check this by visualy inspecting the plug on top of the tank. unplug it and take a look. if it is at all disscolored replace the pump (module). the new pump comes with a replacement harness (make sure its in the box)hope this helps and good luck

SOURCE: My 1990 F150 will not start sometimes. If I turn

when u turn the key to run but don't start the fuel pump shuts off after 5 seconds + or - 2 seconds, this is normal, the common cause of no start on your truck is the TFI ignition module on the distributor, subject of many recalls for failing, also change the stator inside the distributor, use factory parts, aftermarket parts fail very quickly. here is a picture of the parts.

Fuel system problem with a 86 ford bronco 11 wont start.

I'm assuming your not getting fuel pressure. Does it crank over just fine but, acts as if it's out of fuel? Sometimes the electric fuel pump saftey switch (that's suppose to stop the flow of gasoline to the motor in the event of a roll over) can be randomly triggered in this model car. The switch is located in the cab, under the passenger side dash. Pull back the carpet under the glove box, it should be about a foot down from the top of carpet. It may be a little closer to the side kick panel. It will look like a fuse switch with two wires running to it. If I remember right one wire is red the other blue.Check if the switch popped up. Reset the switch. Remember if fuel pump has been dry for awhile it may take 30 secs or so of cracking over before the fuel pressure builds. Hope this helps. If not I'm sure I could figure it out with a little more info. I've owned 3, One 86' and two '87's. Great trucks once you figure out the little strange little quirks that Ford did with the Bronco II.

Fuel pump keeps running with key off

locate the fuse box/relay panel I believe the fords had them in the engine compartment, it soulds like your fuel pump relay is stuck in the on position just pull it out and see if the pump stops.

How do I know if the fuel pump on my 1992 bronco is out ?

Try this.
Remove your gas cap and have someone turn the ignition key to the run position (without starting the engine). If your fuel pump is running, you will be able to hear it cycle.
