Im not sure what car the instructions above are for, but it's not a Cressida. They dont have upper front control arms.
Anyways,
You remove the brake line, brake caliper, brake rotor. Then you remove the sway bar end link that attaches to the shock housing. Next remove the lower 2 shock bolts and the 3 upper mount bolts in the engine bay. Then you push down on the lower control arm so that you can remove the entire shock/spindle assembly.
Then take it to a shop to compress the spring to take it all apart.
shocks are easy my friend. make sure you have shocks in the front not struts. a strut will have a spring around the shock with a large steel plate holding the spring to the strut. first off. the car does not have to be lifted to change the rear and if you have shocks on the front as well. just simply remove the lower and upper mounting hardware then change. i can not say enough make sure you have shocks in the front and not struts. struts are a pain and can be very dangerous to replace if you dont have the correct equipment
Your truck is not equipped with struts. Do you mean shock absorbers? If this is what you mean then the answer to your question is YES. The shock absorber will come out of the truck without removing the lower control arm.
The lower bolt securing the shock must be removed, then the bracket that mounts the top of the shock must be removed. Then the shock is removed from the upper end through the engine compartment.
Loose and worn suspension, because it wobbles, this say upper bearing plate that is attached to the front struts, when a upperbearing plat is worn it can no longer support the load, It is the load carrier of the vehicle, in return why it went out is mainly a shock absorber, shock absorber are fluid filled charged cartridge and when worn it can no longer absorb road shock, you need a front strut both front and a inspection of the upperbearing plate which is part of the strut.
Support the vehicle safely on jackstands. Support it at a height which will allow sufficient room to reach the upper shock absorber mount.
Remove the wheel.
Remove the upper shock nut, washer and bushing.
Remove the lower mounting bolt(s) and remove the shock from the vehicle.
Install the shock absorber in the vehicle and loosely tighten the upper shock absorber nut. Make sure the install the bushings and washers before installing the upper nut.
For 4WD vehicles, install the shock absorber so that the white paint mark at the lower side of the shock absorber faces the outer side of the vehicle. Install the lower shock absorber bolt(s). On 1992-95 Montero torsion bar suspensions, tighten the single lower mounting bolt and nut to 65-76 ft. lbs. (88-103 Nm). On all other vehicles (whether torsion bar or coil spring suspensions), the two lower shock absorber mounting bolts should be tightened only to 7-10 ft. lbs. (9-14 Nm).
Fig. 1: Install the shock absorber so that the white mark faces toward the outside of the vehicle - 4WD vehicles, except 1992-95 Monteros
Fig. 2: Install the bushings, washers and nuts in the order shown - except 1992-95 Monteros
On 1992-95 Monteros, tighten the shock absorber installation nut so that the dimensions shown in the illustration ( A and B) are at the standard values. These standard values are: A - 0.04-0.08 in. (1-2mm), B - 0.06-0.10 in. (1.5-2.5mm).
WARNING When tightening the nut, be careful not to bend the stud pin of the washer assembly.
On all other vehicles, once the lower mounting bolt(s) are tightened, tighten the upper shock absorber mounting nut all the way to the end of the thread on the shock absorber stud, then tighten the locking nut to 9-13 ft. lbs. (12-18 Nm).
Install the wheel.
Lower the vehicle to the ground.
Fig. 3: When installing the upper shock nuts on 1992-95 Monteros, make sure measurement A is 0.04-0.08 in. (1-2mm)
Fig. 4: When installing the upper shock assembly, make sure its components are positioned as shown - 1992-95 Monteros
If it's the part on the upper end of the coilspring, and it is a coilover suspension in front (meaning the shock absorber is mounted in the middle of the coilspring) then it is a called the shock top plate, and if it is a model where the shock absorver and coilspring are mounted one beside the other, then the bracket is called simply the spring seat. Although in both cases you can just ask for a spring seat for the front suspension and they will give you the right part and will know what you're talking about. If it is the part on the lower end of the coilspring, then it is called the control arm and is usually a one piece unit consisting of the control arm itself, the ball joints and the mount bushings.
Remove the front wheel.
Locate and remove the 3 nuts on the upper frame mount, top of the shock.(torque 20 ft lb)
Remove the nut on the sway bar link.(torque 18 ft lb)
Remove the lower bolt that goes thru lower control arm and shock.(torque 258 ft lb)
Then use a spring compressor to compress spring and remove the nut on the spring plate.(41 ft lb)
with great difficulty, three bolts hold the plate that takes the top bush/mounting .jack vehicle up and support with axle stand .Another jack under rear axle ,jack this one up till cars starts to lift then fit the spring clamps and compress the spring.Next undo the 3/4 13mm headed bolts that hold the plate to the chassis ,if you can release them???---??? ,then next using a small bottle jack take the strain on the bottom of the shock absorber and then remove the bolt ,lower the jack and the top one will lower as well ,undo the two nuts on the top mounting and pull the old shock absorber out .Or what i do if back is dancing and thats to do as above to support vehicle ,support lower of shock absorber ,remove the bolt and then jack it up ,then drill a small hole about an inch from the top of the tube and then thread it ,refill the shock absorber with a heavier oil like dextron .fit a bolt into the hole with a rubber washer and its as good as new
