If you have never done this before it's best to let a pro do it, you will need a compressor, air tools to disconnect the lower control arm, and upon re-installing the new axle you will have to make sure it goes in correctly or you will have a bad atf leak.!!!!! You will also need the factory repair manual in order to ensure any special procedures are followed.
sounds like a cv joint> best thing to do is change cv's on both sides that should solve it. not so easy to do as a first timer unless you have done it before. check the control arms aswell
if your cv joint is going bad check the rubber boot located on your front axel if there is a tear in the boot once dirt gets inside the boot depending on how long youve had the noise the cv joint will have to be replaced sometimes the first signs are a clicking noise when turning coming from the cv joint if you catch it early you may get away with just replacing the boot there are two ways of doing this depending on the vehical one is to buy split boot it wraps around the axel and is held together with tiny bolts and nuts the axel doesant have to be removed useing this type you still have to remove the damaged boot and clean the cv joint thoroughly i suggest useing brake parts cleaner be carefull not to get it on any rubber parts or lines then before installing the new boot pack the joint with grease and the boot the other way the old joint must be removed you will have to remove the complete axel assemble the new joint and axel will come as one unit depending on the vehical your balljoint or joints may have to be removed also this method to me is the prefferd way this will assure all is new its more involved but better in the long run
I owned a 93 GC 4x4 and I did replace my front axles with CV joint axles. The new axles came with CV joints, with a rubber boot and all so yes you can.
axle CV joints. Check 4 boots for tears. Also grab shafts and tug--check for play in joints. Replace axles that have play in CV joints. Let us know if you need instructions.
A broken engine or tranny mount should not cause a front wheel to wobble. If this is happening with a grinding noise I'd expect more of a failing bearing or such. The grinding noise may also be a rotor of the brakes with poor pads. Yes, if a axel, or CV joint, is failing this can make noise too, often times a "clicking" type of noise. Best get the front of the van up on jack stands, remove the tires and inspect all of the front-end components; pay special attention CV joints, rotors and front axel area, loose movement in the axels?

That is what is called your CV joint. They are notorious for making "knuckling" sounds when turning a corner. They are not very expensive, however it does require that you take the suspension and brake hardware loose in order to get it out.
You have 2 "half axle(s)", each half axel has 2 CV joints. One half axle goes to each front wheel on front wheel drive cars. You could do it yourself, however if you are not competent it would be best to take it to a shop.
I would recommend getting both half axles replaced.
