My 2001 Chevy S10 truck battery drains dead after setting not started about a day and a half.5. Used a test light between the neg. post and neg. cable when testing while the positive cable still connected to battery.12. Disconnected the power wire to the fuse box under the hood. Test light goes out. Reconnected power wire light comes back on. Pulled every fuse one by one test light says on. Disconnected each wire plug one by one under and on side of fuss box, test light stays on.

I think after charging the battery get it load tested, you may have proper voltage but a cell could be going bad. You can disconnect the negative cable leave off for couple days that will tell you if the battery could be the problem. There are systems in some vehicles which use voltage all the time but it should not run the battery down in 1-1/2 days.
Over the year some things which has run my battery down. It was not always obvious. 86 blazer the dome light in back was left on. I did not see it in the day but found it when it started getting dark. The door switch shorted and left the interior lights on 72 Chevy wagon. Flood light charger in pickup which was charging 24/7 and draining my battery. After removing the light from the charger had no more problems with battery going dead when not run everyday.
Just a few thought I had when I saw your post.

SOURCE: If you leave the truck

If the POSITIVE battery cable is going to ground you will be seeing lots of smoke and fire. Your truck will be burning and you will need to call the fire department, not a mechanic. Take your vehicle to a qualified service technician and have it tested for an "Ignition Off Draw."

When not running the engine for a week, the battery dies. When I jump start it, engine will start cranking very slow and pickup speed before it starts running.

it seems like the battery is going. clean battery terminals, also the grounding to the body (engine block, transmission, etc.) all should be shiny cleaned. suggest you go to autozone (or other auto parts) for a free battery & alternator tests.

Mitsubishi 2001 Galant battery drain

Do not disconnect the positive Or negative cable while vehicle is running it is no longer an acceptable test and damage to computers could occur as there is no ability to suppress or absorb a voltage spike. If you remove the negative cable to check for an amperage draw that's an other thing. You should use a meter and connect it in series between the neg post and the neg cable once all modules are in sleep mode there should be no more than .3v as a rule of thumb. If more you have a parasitic draw which you could isolate the system/circuit by removing fuses one at a time. When the draw is gone that's the circuit in question.

well u may have discharged the battery so many time that it may not be any good now. but if u have a known good battery in the car u can do a parisitic drain test u will need to disconnect the negative batery terminal and clamp ur amp meter leads between the neg terminal and batery post. make sure doors are closed and everything is off b4 u start. u want to have less then half and amp or 500 miliamps. start removing and replacing fuses until the amperage drops to withing specification then u have found ur problem circuit

My 84 nissan pick up 's battery is going dead overnight and the battery is brand new and the regulator and alternator are fine.....any suggestions?

FIRST THING, START THE TRUCK, PLACE A VOLTMETER ON THE BATTERY. VOLTAGE SHOULD READ BETWEEN 13.90 & 14.80. IF THAT IS OK, THERE MUST BE A BATTERY DRAIN. TO CHECK FOR A BATTERY DRAIN, TURN OFF ALL SWITCHES, CLOSE GLOVE COMPARTMENT, MAKE SURE THE LIGHT IN THERE IS GOING OUT. OPEN THE HOOD, CLOSE ALL OF THE DOORS, MAKE SURE ALL OF THE COURTESY LIGHTS ARE GOING OUT.DISCONNECT THE NEG. BATTERY CABLE. CONNECT ONE END OF A 12 VOLT TEST LIGHT TO THE NEG. POST OF THE BATTERY. FASTEN THE OTHER END TO A METAL PART OF THE MOTOR. IF THE LIGHT COMES ON THERE IS A BATTERY DRAIN. NO LIGHT, NO DRAIN. IF THE LIGHT IS ON, YOU NEED TO UNPLUG THE FUSIBLE LINKS FROM THE POSITIVE CABLE ONE AT A TIME TO ISOLATE THE DRAIN. ALSO, DISCONNECT THE ALTERNATOR, & SEE IF THE TEST LIGHT GOES OUT.BAD ALTERNATORS CAN CHARGE THE BATTERY WHEN RUNNING, & DRAIN THE BATTERY WHEN STOPPED.

HERE IS HOW TO CHECK FOR A BATTERY DRAIN. TURN OFF ALL SWITCHES, MAKE SURE THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT IS CLOSED & THAT THE LITE INSIDE IS GOING OUT .RAISE THE HOOD, DISABLE THE UNDER HOOD LIGHT. CLOSE ALL THE DOORS TIGHT. MAKE SURE ALL COURTESY LIGHTS ARE GOING OUT. GET A 12 VOLT CIRCUIT TESTER, { A SEE THROUGH ICEPICK WITH A LIGHT INSIDE }. REMOVE THE NEG BATTERY CABLE, PUT ONE END OF THE TESTER ON THE NEG BATTERY POST. PUT THE OTHER END OF THE TESTER ON A GOOD GROUND. IF THE TEST LIGHT LIGHTS UP THAT SAYS THERE IS A BATTERY DRAIN. IF THE LIGHT IS ON. START PULLING FUSES ONE AT A TIME FROM THE FUSE/ RELAY BOX NEAR THE BATTERY. WHEN THE LIGHT GOES OUT THAT IS THE DRAINING CIRCUIT. YOU MAY WANT TO DISCONNECT THE ALTERNATOR. ALTERNATORS CAN CHARGE THE BATTERY WHEN THE MOTOR IS RUNNING & IF SOMETHING IS WRONG INSIDE THEY CAN DRAIN THE BATTERY WHEN STOPPED OVERNIGHT.

I have a 2001 chevy malibu. yesterday the car did not start and we jumped it. i tested the battery after and it read 12.7 volts while sitting and 14.3 when running. what could have caused the car not to...

the readings are normal and ok. try this-- remove negative cable from battery with car off. put a test light between cable end and to neg, post on battery. leave test light connected to cable end and neg, on battery. then hold cable end on battery for 2 minutes. after 2 min. lift up cable end, leave test light connected. if light now glows, you have a draw on electrical system. it could be anything from a glove box light on to dome light etc. good-luck !! ( be sure you have a good charged battery before testing it ). jump it if need be.

Buick century 2003, slow drain overnight, wont start in morning

To know for sure you need to do parasitic draw testing ! Not looking for a magical fix on here . has anyone ran into any issues that may cause drain, like glove box light switch etc,???? In my thrity years of repairing vehicles have seen a lot of thing's cause this problem .Back in the 80's when i first started at chevy dealer saw glove boxes stuff full ,to the point light would stay on . These day's more like a module not powering down when it's suppose to. Hooking up a amp meter between the neg. battery post and neg. cable an checking amp draw. If it's over 80 miliamps you have a draw on the electrical system. Pulling fuse's till the draw goes away . find what all that fues powers and isolate the different circuits till the draw goes away . That's kind of the long way now a days . There is a much easier way ,voltage drop testing accross the fuse's .

Something that is drawing to cause battery to go dead

Tell him to use his test light between + battery connection & battery post +, and start pulling fuses one by one. When you find the right fused circuit causing the drain, light will dim or go out. Don't forget, radio has a small constant draw for memory.
