I have a 2002 LW200 wagon with L61 Eco-tec. I installed rebuilt engine. Put back old IAC. I checked pintal to make sure it was 20MM. Engine starts great but idles at 2300-3000. After a few seconds the idle goes up and down on its own like someone is playing with the gas pedal. if gas pedal is pushed and released idle will drop to 1500. Push pedal again it goes into high idle and starts the up and down idle.

Throttle position switch sounds like getting false readings to computer, incorrect volts or excessive play from the throttle plate or sensor causes this,has to be one or the other,also check for any intake leaks from the filter to the throttle body,good luck,Gary

My 2001 Saturn SC2 would randomly rev itself, i did a diagnostic test at auto zone and found the temp. sensor was going out fixed the problem. Ya its fun when your car keeps going when you let off the gas O_o. Hope this helps!

well sorry there is 1 or 2, 1 for SOHC and 2 for some DOHC and
for sure a crank sensors. CKP + CMP are there at least.

answering for 2003 car. only (tossed a coin)
nice chain drive cam.
the 2 cams have 2 ends and I see clear as day a huge boss on the end of one, << bingo for CMP.

THE DOHC , MUST BE THERE AND ON ONE OF 4 ENDS of cams ( I look 4 points and only one has sensors so...)

L61 AND WAS JUST LIKE I SAID ABOVE THE CAM SHAFT END BOSS , HAS CMP HOUSING.
FACING ENGINE, EXHAUST CAM SHAFT RIGHT SIDE FRONT OF CAR. THERE IT IS, (valve cover full front right end) and the BOSS.
LISTEN TO THE MAN, YOU CANNOT JUST THROW IT ON.
TDC #1 COMPRESSION STOKE, 0 DEGREES TDC, CAM AND CRANKS SET.

If it has the 4 cylinder (2.2L) engine, it has a timing chain. If it has the V6 (3.0L) engine, it has a timing belt. The timing chain or belt is located under the timing cover at the 'front' of the engine -- the end of the engine where the serpentine belt is located.
How does it idle cold ? Is the check engine light lit ? Does it run good going down the road ? You could have a vacuum leak , carbon build up on the throttle plate , a IAC - idle air control valve problem or passages clogged . EGR valve pintal seat carboned up , causing the pintal not to seat ! Or if the vehicle is newer it could have electronic throttle control ! I would suggest you take it to a ASE certified repair facility an don't just replace parts , because that never ends well ,an you end up wasting money !
Determine which fuel pump your Saturn VUE will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models made before 2008 may have a 2.2 L L61, 2.4 L BAS hybrid, 3.0 L L81 or 3.5 L L66 engine. Current models are offered with a 2.4 L LE5, 3.5 L LZ4 and 3.6 L LY7 engine.
Prepare your vehicle for fuel pump servicing. Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Disconnect the fuel tank.
Disconnect the fuel pump's electrical connector, fuel lines and hoses. Remove the retaining ring for the fuel pump with wrench SA9156E and disconnect the retaining clip by pulling it toward the float arm and lifting up. Lift the fuel pump out of the fuel tank and discard the old fuel tank seal.
Install the new fuel pump using the items included in the kit and be sure to replace the fuel tank seal. Install the lock ring on the fuel pump with tool SA9156E and connect the fuel lines and hoses. Plug in the wiring harness, connect the fuel tank and negative battery cable.
a new engine is $25-35,000 dollars(if Toyota even has them) The rebuilt engines are very good. 3 yrs-unlimited miles on repairs/replace engine. Get a name brand engine like Jasper or Atk or BulletProof or Gopher. These ARE Toyota engines rebuilt(sometime better than original) The transmission has evidently been a great one(mine has 185,000 miles).<p>
You've done great on this car. But to replace engine and transmission; you looking labor and parts:$7-8,000. If you fix it, it will last forever, and you'll know it's good.<p>
Or you could buy a certified used Toyota, and buy an extended warranty.<p>
The only other thing is to buy new-$20-25,000 for a new Camary v/6 ( I don't know if they even make the wagon anymore)<p>

Check the oil, make sure it had oil in it.
If they didnt add oil then you could have siezed the engine.
Please get back with your findings on the dipstick, amount of oil, Color, feel.
