I have a jeep cherokee 4x4 sport 95 4.0 litre. The engine will start when i put it into start position but after i let go of the key it stops running, and when i go to start it up and agian it will run if i leave the key in the start position but i dont want to burn out the starter. The battery is new and the distributor and rotor has been changed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Check fuses in power distribution center near battery and auto shutdown relay
fuses are "pass/fail either blown or not. It could be the ignition switch (on top of the steering column) that is faulty, but lately I've seen more problems with the relay going bad. To test, use a volt meter and check volts in, volts out.on the switch, should be a red going in and a dark blue coming out (don't trust this though, my diagram lies to me all the time) Yellow wire should go to starter relay.

Thanks for the advice i checked the fuses and they seemed to be working alright, could the problem be coming from the steering colum as well? I am going to change all the fuses anyways just in case they arent running up to snuff.
