Car will not shift from park, "odometer off" light on in dash display

Engine will turn over but not crank.???? Engine cranks but won't start an run .
Odometer
The instrument cluster receives odometer rolling count status from the PCM and stores the mileage in non-volatile memory (NVM). When the instrument cluster fails to receive the odometer rolling count status for more than two seconds, the odometer display will show dashes.

B2143 Odometer NVM Memory Failure Instrument Cluster INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster in this section. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
Taking the vehicle an having it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes would be a good idea ! Not to autozone or advance etc... Need a professional or factory scanner to check for these codes .

The odometer light is incorporated with the dash light circuit. If all other dash lights are operational, suspect a burned out bulb

there is a regulator for the display brightness, you may have it turn'd down or it has stopped working;. it controls the brightness at which the dash lights are. usually has a speedo sign on it. goes up and down. it works with the main light and is conecter to them on the same lighting board if it has gone then a new light swtch control switch will be needed.

look for blowed fuse or fuse link to battery and ignition switch.

Sounds like two different problems - the brake light switch and the speed sensor in the transmission.
Does the speedometer work ?

These lights for the dash are controlled by a rheostat instrument control dimmer switch next to the main light switch for the headlights, it is either turned off (have seen this dozens of times) or it is defective. Below is a picture of the switch assembly I speak of. The thumb wheel next to the knob is the dimmer control.

turn the key on. press the odometer/trip button until the odometer is displayed. turn the key off. press and hold the odometer button and turn the key to the run position (do not start). The odometer should change from a number to all dashes ( - - - - - - ). One by one the dashes will disappear then the display will change to all zeros and then will change to the regular odometer reading. Once the regular odometer is displayed let go of the button and turn the key off. The maintenance light will now be reset.

ILL.1" through "ILL.6" displayed in the odometer field indicate the level of the dash light dimmer setting. These messages will be displayed briefly when the dash light dimmer setting is adjusted. In the '05 Subaru Outbacks, dash light dimmers are known to fail. When they fail, the "ILL.n" message will appear sporadically in the odometer display without changing the dimmer setting. Replacing the dimmer will correct the problem.
