So I heard the throw out bearing starting to howl a little when I let out the clutch. Then I was driving on freeway if 5th and heard a bang and it popped into neutral and was making a screaming noise. I pushed the clutch in and it stopped and I put it in first and tried to drive and the truck would not drive. It was acting almost like it was locked up or stuck.... Do you think this problem is just the throwout bearing or do you think that the Transmission could have blown???

ON A 2000 MAX 6 CYLINDER HAS CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER AND SLAVE CYLINDER, CHECK FLUID LEVEL AND BLEED CLUTCH SYSTEM AT SLAVE CYLINDER BLEEDER. HAVE NOT HEAR OF CABLE CLUTCH SYSTEM. ONLY HYDO.& LINKAGE. GOOD LUCK
SOURCE: my truck makes a high-pitched whirring noise when
the high pitch noise leads me to believe a problem with the hyudraulic clutch. Have you checked the level? also with manuals you dont have tranny fluid, you have gear oil; which is very unlikely that needs changing
SOURCE: Transmission issues with 3rd and 5th gear
It's weird but it's the problem!!! There is a switch on the transmission near the selector, usually only affects 3rd gear!!! The switch is being distorted after repetitive battering with gear selection!!! I have experienced it and also read about it in australia on a Navara!!!
SOURCE: transmission stuck in 5th gear???
This is most likely one of your cam shaft sensors. The reason your transmission goes to 5th gear and stays there is because the car automatically goes into "safe mode". This prevents you from running the car on high RPM's which decreases the chance of causing more damage to the engine.
Depending on the code you get from the check engine light, it will be one of the cam-shaft sensors or the crank shaft sensor. A code reader will answer that question.
Often the sensor just fails or oil gets into the connectors which prevents proper reading. This sometimes goes away temporarily when engine is hot but problem will return.
To replace the cam shaft sensors you are looking at approximately 30 min of work. Its a tight fit but not a difficult job.
Cam shaft sensors are about $80. Not sure how much crank haft sensor is.
Hope this helps, and good luck.
