Yes the new tires will fit, but being the new tires are larger slight rubbing may happen when you turn sharp.

Sounds like a fuel issue to me. Maybe the fuel is sloshing to the right of the tank and causing air to be drawn into the fuel line. Just a guess but something to think about.

You may be lucky and just have to remove the top section just behind the mirror. Usually you have to remove the door panel to access the bolts.
