If you need to disable the ABS, or "anti lock brake system", on your car you should do so with caution ...
Jun 29, 2012 - I am going to disable and I would like to know the best way to do it. I can do it easy ... Near the ABS unit is where the wheel sensors come up
Easiest way is turn ignition switch on to run position do not start. Warning lights will light up on dash panel. There will be a orange light that comes on, if it has abs. Part of the self test diagnostics of abs system relates to this light coming on. If orange light goes on you have at least rear wheel abs. If you see wires coming out of the center of the back of each front wheel you have 4 wheel abs.
under the hood you will find a relay center ,the relay for your abs is bad.the way it effects the braking system is (now that the abs light is on )when you slam on the brakes your truck will skid to a stop, the abs system prevents the skidding, you will feel the brake pedal pulsate until stopped.
Hi:
the ABS light means that you have a problem with your ABS system, and it is not working. The most likely problem is a bad wheel speed sensor, but the only way to know for sure is to have someone download the ABS fault codes off of your car. That way you can figure out why the ABS light is on.
usually when there is an interuption in current flow you will get flickering indicator lights on the dash. This means one of two things, either the sensors that control those indicator lights are becoming faulty or the alternator may be on its way out. One thing you need to keep in mind if you ABS unit is on its way out you will not notice any difference in drivability. ABS is just a brake assist(Antilock Brake System) when it fails you don't lose your brakes you just stop like a regular brake system would without an assist.(ABS) Maybe the unitis on its way out as well.. I would ge it checked as well.. Good Luck
the abs light is tripped by any computer-recognized problem within the abs system. a wheel sensor tends to be the most common cause of an abs light. while the light is on, the standard brakes function normally but the abs system is completely bypassed. the best way to diagnose this is to plug the vehicle into a code scanner. any decent shop can perform this service, or you can purchase a scanner at an auto parts store or online. if you do go that route, ensure that the scanner you purchase specifically can interpret abs codes
The only to get rid of an ABS light is to fix the problem. I would get it scaned and see what it would cost for parts. As long as you don't have a red brake warning light then your base brakes are working. If you have both lights then get it fixed soon, before you have an accident. Good Luck
The ABS light coming on all of a sudden seems to be cuz of a faulty ABS wheel sensor. You will need to take it to your mechanic and have him "pull the codes" from the ABS computer. That is the only way to know the problem... Sometimes it is also caused by low battery voltage so you might wanna swap that out to check...
