Starting difficulties My 2000 Toyota Avalon XLS does not start on the first turn of the key. It makes a clicking noise and nothing happens. After turning the key 2-4 times, the car will eventually start. All electrical components work, however the car just has a difficult time starting. A few times, it has caught and the begins to start but then quickly dies.

It definitely sounds like a weak battery issue. Ck your connections at the battery for cleanliness & tightness. U need to have the batt checked along w the charging system & ckd for electrical shorts. If no problem is found that is the starting line. It may be a prob in the ignition system etc. if the problem isn't found by here. Good Luck
It sounds like you have a bad actuator. This is attached to the starter and has a solonoid that pushes the starter motor gears into the engine gear. If the solonoid is faulty this may happen. Also check alignment of the same.
Hello I have simular problem the ignition on is stuck in that position with the key turned off and out of the ignition switch. It feels like the key switch is spinning freely in the ignition. Do I need an ignition switch?
The first thing to do is try another key. Perhaps your transponder key has failed.
You can identify a 'transponder key'; it has a wide part wher you turn it.
Most likely is a wheel bearing needing replacement. Try taking your foot off the gas and coasting. If it does not change it is the wheel bearing. If it does change it could be one of the pully's for the fan belts
the other areas the fault could be located are in your meter circuit plate (which is part of your combination meter), it could be in the wiring, or possibly your multi display (also part of your combination meter)
clicking noise with key turn won't start
