I have a 1999 toyota corolla LE. I'm looking for a way to shut off the daytime running lights without disabling my headlights as a whole? In case you don't know this means the headlights are on all the time but when I turn the stalk the taillights come on as well. Is there some separate way to shut them off ?
You can't disable them it's illegal. If you need to shut them off while the engine runs say at drive-in, apply the parking brake (this works on some but not all cars, and don't try driving with parking brake engaged just one click).
I have a 2006 US model Corolla LE with a manual trans, and I noticed while parked on a slight incline that the car would start rolling backwards before the parking brake was all the way down. While it did this, the DRLs did not turn on. My parking brake has a few notches before it's all the way down. After a while, I learned to lower it not quite all the way while driving during the day, and have gone without DRLs for nearly four years now with no problems apart from the "BRAKE" light being on in the dash all the time.
I've tried this on automatic Corollas of co-workers, and it worked for them as well.
