I have a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, with a 3.1 L V6. So far I've had the fuel pump and filter replaced (it failed), changed my spark plugs, and had the throttle body cleaned by the local garage. The problem I've been trying to fix since I bought the car has been a sticky gas pedal. The gas pedal/throttle is fine during the first stages of acceleration. It's during the first shift through 2nd, 3rd gears that it feels like there's resistance or pressure. I'm really confused and wondering if this could be a throttle problem or one caused by the transmission. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Overdrive has two important factors involving when and if it turns on besides being in the proper gear shift position. One is tthe car has to FIRST reach operating temps before it will engage the TCC ( torque converter clutch ). That could involve a faulty thermostat, or short distance drives, Second important factor WILL DISENGAGE WHEN STEPPING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. A brake switch could be misadjusted , and without you stepping on the brake, the computer thinks you are and wont engage TCC. Hope this helps.
